Candidate: Bruce Darby
Years in Estes Park: I moved to Estes Park from Key West in 1999
Prior Experience - Career Information: I have had a widely varied career as an employee and entrepreneur. I
Had a 16-year career as a Professional mariner running sailing charter boats, ship assist tug boats, and
larger research vessels looking for historically significant shipwrecks in the US, Southern Europe, and
North Africa. I have been a real Estate Investor, buying, selling, and building residential and commercial
properties since 1999. I bought The Rock Inn Property and spent 5 years as owner/operator. I have been
the owner/founder of a property management company servicing ultra-high-end residential properties I
have been the owner/founder of an e-commerce business, where I created a brand of environmentally
friendly cleaning products. I recently sold that company.
Previous Participation on Town Boards or Committees: I have not participated on any Town Boards or
Committees, but I have been consistently watching the Study Sessions and the Town Board Meetings for
years. I have been attending the Town Board Meetings more regularly since I was interviewed by the Town
Board last Spring about being considered for the vacant seat. I look forward to the chance to be a part of
this board and contribute my perspectives on policies and other issues for years to come.
Educational Background: I graduated from Guilford Colege in Greensboro North Carolina with a Political
Science degree. I began my career as a Professional Mariner with a 50-ton Near Coastal License from
Maritime Professional Training in Ft. Lauderdale FL. and worked my way up to a 500-ton All Ocean
masters License with all of the STCW endorsements such as Advanced Shipboard Firefighting, Advanced
Radar, GMDSS, and Celestial Navigation. I also graduated with basic and advanced Dynamic Positioning
Systems Certification from the Kongsberg Maritime Training Center in Houston TX. I graduated from
various programs to get certified in the operations of ROV, AUV, Sidescan Sonar, Magnetometer Array, and
Multi-Beam Echosounder equipment as well as a PADI NITROX scuba cert.
Narrative:*
I'm excited to share my candidacy for Town Trustee, aiming to bring a fresh perspective to our incredible
community.
Having called Estes Park home since 1999, I’m committed to leveraging my decades of experience to propel us
forward.
I will be a voice for balance and finding common ground, always willing to hear and discuss all angles of the
issues we face.
My wide range of lifetime accomplishments and experiences give me essential skills to participate as a member
of the Town Board of Trustees, and to lend my perspective with the goal of effective town governance.
Beyond professional endeavors, my role as a husband and father of two elementary school kids underscores my
commitment to a family-friendly, safe, and prosperous community.
I believe in a future for Estes Park that balances several layers and areas of inevitable growth while preserving
our well-established, quiet residential neighborhoods and the unique Estes Park charm that has and will continue
to bring us all here.
