roclamation
WHEREAS, Rocky Mountain N at1onal Park was
designated by the United States Congress and signed into
law by President Woodrow Wilson as a national park on
January 26, 1915 and since then, the Town of Estes Park
and Rocky Mountain National Park has had a proud
history of friendship, partnership and mutual support; and
WHEREAS, both Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP)
and the Town of Estes Park have been the beneficiaries of Darla
B.Sidles energy, selfless dedication, leadership, community
building, and safety mindset as Superintendent of RMNP; and
WHEREAS, Darla began her career of public service in 1986 as a
volunteer of the Student Conservation Association with the U.S.
Forest Service in the North Cascades, and has worked for the National
Park Service at natural parks, historical parks, and monuments
extending from Alaska to Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Darla was the Deputy Superintendent at Independence
National Historical Park, and Superintendent at Grand Canyon Parashant
National Monument and Saguaro National Park, prior to becoming the first
woman Superintendent of RMNP in August of 2016; and
WHEREAS, as Superintendent of RMNP, Darla has overseen many
opportunities and challenges including record visitation, visitor use management,
timed-entry permits, COVID-19, and unprecedented wildfires, all while
preserving Colorado's unique natural landscape and abundant wildlife for millions
of people to behold each year; and
WHEREAS, Darla has been a steadfast partner with the Town of Estes and Park,
and on June 30, 2023 will retire after 7 years as Superintendent of RMNP and
more than 30 years in the National Park Service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of
Trustees of the Town of Estes Park do hereby recognize
DARLA B. SIDLES
and find it an honor and distinct pleasure to present this proclamation in
recognition of her many contributions and commitment to RMNP and the Town
of Estes Park.
