ESPN ON CABLEVISION:
Charlie Mills and Sharon Sedella of ESPN presented a video presentation
of the Entertainment Sports Program Network.Mr.Mills stated that
ESPN would only be available to Estes Park if carried on basic cable
vision programming rather than on extended service channels or a tier.
Pat Patterson of Estes Park Cable TV Company explained that changing
the basic programming would upset many customers.A letter dated
December 31,1981 was read from Wayne Unze stating that officials with
ESPN told him that ESPN would be carried on a tier if the Board of
Trustees requested it.Mr.Mills suggested alternative channeling
which would enable ESPN to be placed on basic programming and agreed
to provide Estes Park Cable TV Company with $250 to advertise the
changes in the basic program and to promote ESPN.After considerable
discussion,the Committee recommended that ESPN replace PTL (Praise
the Lord)on Channel 13 and that PTL be carried on the first tier.
STREET LIGHTING IN FERNCLIFF:
Mr.Kvols appeared before the Committee again requesting street lights
in the Ferncliff area.He requested a total of four street lights
and promised to provide all the lights and poles and to set the poles.
He also agreed to have two of the street lights metered for which he
would pay the electricity.The Town would only be responsible for
the electrical costs of two lights and maintenance.When the Committee
considered this request previously,it was felt that installing the
lights as requested would set a precedent because the only unmetered
street lights are located within the town limits and the main sections
of Allenspark and Glen Haven.Mr.Kvols contended that Ferncliff was
platted as a town in 1910 and,therefore,has the same status as Glen
Haven and Allenspark.The Committee decided to table the request in
order to take a field trip to Ferncliff to view the situation.
REPORTS:
Due to changes in the law,the Town will have to start collecting pole
rental fees from cablevision which were previously administered by
Mountain Bell.
Electric power system peak demand for Estes Park has increased from
8,160 KW in 1975 to 13,701 KW in 1981.Purchased power costs have
increased from $385,622 in 1975 to $1,593,081 in 1981.Energy sales
have increased from $1,115,625 in 1975 to $2,673,141 in 1981.
