HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Light and Power Committee 1984-11-010 0 RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS /Light and Power Committee November 1,1984 Committee:Chairman Graves,Trustees Brown and Laing Attending:Chairman Graves,Trustee Laing Also Attending:Mayor Dannels,Town Administrator Hill,Light and Power Director Dekker,Finance Officer Vavra,Art Anderson,Bob Joseph,Steve Swickard,Clerk O’Connor Absent:Trustee Brown STREET LIGHT REQUEST: A request was received to install a street light at the Elks Club entrance off West Elkhorn Avenue.For safety reasons,Police Chief Ault concurs with the request.The Committee recommends approval of the street light installation. ELKHORN AVENUE STREET LIGHTS: Director Dekker stated maintenance on the new street lights located on Elkhorn Avenue has been very high.Primary causes of the problems are failure of the “ignitor”and the snapping-off of the bases.To date,five poles have been replaced due to acci dents involving private trucking companies.Following dis cussion,the Committee recommends the Urban Renewal Authority be held responsible for resolving the street liqht-related incidents with affected manufacturers. URBAN RENEWAL AUTHORITY -ADJUSTMENT ON BILLING: Director Dekker informed the Committee of standard billing procedures in which a 15%warehousing factor is added to all materials on work performed by the Light and Power Department. With regard to the Elkhorn Avenue street lights,the Urban Renewal Authority would be invoiced $11,848.00 for warehousing. Discussion followed with the Committee recommending reducing the warehouse charge to $2,962.16 in this particular case. VIDEO RECORDER AND TELEVISION -AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE: Light and Power Director Dekker advised the Committee of “Safety Meetings”which are held each month.Video tapes are viewed using either private or rental equipment.A video recorder and television owned by the Town and stored in the Board Room,would receive a great deal of use throughout all departments.The Committee recommends Light and Power Director Dekker be authorized to purchase a video recorder and 19”television set. PROPOSAL FOR OUTDOOR CHRISTMAS MUSIC: Mr.Steve Swickard,representing Audio Video of Estes Park, submitted a letter dated October 30,1984 proposing to set-up an outdoor sound system to play Christmas music along Elkhorn Avenue for a fee of $600.The music would be played from 10:00 A.M.to shop closing time.Mr.Swickard stated various merchants were interested in his proposition.Director Dekker stated the Light and Power Department could assist Mr.Swickard in stringing wire. A question and answer period followed with the Committee recom mending accepting Mr.Swickard’s proposal in the amount of $600 contingent upon the donation of $250 by the Merchants. 0 0 RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Light and Power Committee -November 1,1984 -Page two REPORTS: The Rocky Mountain National Park,in a recent regional meeting discussed the possibility of the Park acquiring the Town’s rights located at the Cascade Dam. Alternative Christmas decorations are being reviewed for Elkhorn Avenue due to the addition of the new street light poles. An updated “Official Statement”is being printed for Platte River Power Authority.This should help the effort to improve their ratings from Moodys and Standard and Poors. Bids for new vehicles to replace a meter reading truck and compressor truck plus the compressor were not available at this time. There being no further business,the meeting adjourned.
