WHEREAS,William Booth began a movement of preaching to and

providing for the practical needs of people in desperate poverty in
London in 1865 and that movement became known as The
Salvation Army;and
WHEREAS,The Salvation Army has won the respect of vast
numbers of men and women through its services to persons in the
armed forces during times of war;and
WHEREAS,The Salvation Army has a world-wide reputation for
“being there”whenever individual disasters such as a home
burning down,or area-wide disasters like hurricanes,occur;and
WHEREAS,The Salvation Army has a service unit in Estes Park which,for a number of
years,has provided emergency food,medicine,housing.transportation and other services
to visitors and local residents in need;and
WHEREAS The Salvation Army red kettle and tinkling silver bell have become,in all
communities,a reminder of the needs of many in our midst and a means of providing
resources for meeting those needs;
THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes
Park proclaim November 23,2000,through December 23,2000,
SALVATION ARMY BELL-RINGING SEASON
All citizens and visitors in our community are encouraged to put contributions in the
Salvation Army kettles to be used in meeting emergency needs of persons and families
living among us or visiting in our area.
