HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION Rooftop Rodeo WeekQte.Jark,(Lotoribo to tiamatto II WHEREAS,the earliest reference to a “rodeo type”event occurred on July 4,1908,as a wild west exhibition held at Base Ball Park,beside the “lane”one quarter of a mile east of town,featuring cowboy competitions such as roping,branding and steer riding;and WHEREAS,in the early 19005 Estes Park adopted the title of “The Horse Capital of the Nation”because horses were the primary means of transportation;and WHEREAS,in 1941 the title “Rooftop Roundup”was introduced because of Estes Park’s 7500-foot altitude and was billed as the highest altitude for any rodeo competition in America;and .,in 1976 the Rooftop Rodeo was placed on the State of Colorado’s official Centennial-Bicentennial calendar of events in order to celebrate 50 years of successful rodeo,along with nearly 100 years of local Estes Park history,100 years of statehood,and our nation’s 200th anniversary;and ‘WHEREAS,in 1994,1995,and 1996,the Rooftop Rodeo won the Mountain States Circuit Cowboy’s Choice Award;and in 2007 won the Mountain States Most Improved Rodeo Award;and in 2006,2008,and 2009 won the Mountain States Best Small Rodeo; and WHEREAS,in 2010 and 2011 the Rooftop Rodeo won the Mountain States Best Medium Size Rodeo Award;and ‘WHEREAS,in 2010 the Rooftop Rodeo won the Women’s Professional Rodeo Association Small Rodeo of the Year Award;and WHEREAS,in 2003,2006,2008,2009,and 2010,the Rooftop Rodeo was selected by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association as the Best Small Rodeo of the Year from over 400 other small rodeos in America;and WHEREAS,in 2011,2012,2013,2014,and 2015 the Rooftop Rodeo was selected as one of the Top 5 Medium Size Rodeos in the Nation;and WHEREAS,the Rooftop Rodeo,celebrating its 90th Anniversary,is truly an event supported by the Town of Estes Park,its merchants,residents,and a strong committee of volunteers.
