HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION Purple Pinkie - End Polio Now Week 2009-10-18Qftc park,oLorabo to clamatto II WHEREAS,in 1985,there were 350,000 children with polio in 125 countries throughout the world and today, the number of afflicted countries is down to just four;and WHEREAS,the two Rotary Clubs operating in the Town of Estes Park,Colorado have made many contributions to help members of the community,and people throughout the world;and WHEREAS,Rotary International has identified the worldwide eradication of Polio as a top priority and has set a worldwide goal of raising $200 million to match $355 million in challenge grants received from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to rid the earth of this crippling,and sometimes fatal disease;and WHEREAS,during the week of October 18 -24,2009,the Rotary Club of Estes Park and the Estes Valley Sunrise Rotary will jointly host several awareness and fundraising events dedicated to this goal;and WHEREAS,the Town of Estes Park is interested in the welfare of and improving the quality of life for all people potentially afflicted with this disease throughout the world;and NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park proclaim the week of October 18 -24, 2009 as PURPLE PINKIE —END POLIO NOW WEEK in the Town of Estes Park and encourage all citizens to recognize and support the worldwide eradication of polio.
