WHEREAS,we the citizens of Estes Park,place high value
on local control over community services and therefore have
chosen to operate community-owned,locally controlled,not-
for-profit electric utilities and,as consumers and owners of our
electric utilities,have a direct say in utility operations and
policies;and
WHEREAS,Estes Park Light &Power and Platte River Power
Authority provide our homes,businesses,social service and local
government agencies with low-cost reliable,environmentally
responsible electricity employing sound business practices designed to
ensure the best possible service at not-for-profit rates;and
WHEREAS,Estes Park Light &Power and Platte River Power
Authority are valuable community assets that contribute substantially to
the well-being of local citizens through energy efficiency,customer
service,environmental protection,and economic development;and
WHEREAS,Estes Park Light &Power and Platte River Power Authority are
dependable and trustworthy institutions whose local operations provide many
consumer protections and continue to make our community a better place in which
to live and work;
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that Estes Park Light &Power and
Platte River Power Authority will continue to work together to bring low-cost reliable,
environmentally responsible electricity to community homes and businesses,and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,that the week of October 7-13,2007 be
designated the 21st annual
PUBLIC POWER WEEK
in order to honor Estes Park Light &Power and Platte River Power Authority for
their contributions to the community,and to join hands with more than 2,000 other
public power systems in the United States in this celebration of public power and
recognize that Estes Park Light &Power and Ptatte River Power Authority are good
for consumers,businesses,and the community.
