WHEREAS,“rodeo type”events have been held in Estes Park
since 1908 when Wild West exhibitions featuring cowboy
competitions such as roping,branding,and steer riding were
held;and
WHEREAS,the names of these competitions varied from “Wild
West Show”to “Bronco Busting Competition”;it was in 1941
that the competition was given the title of “Rooftop Rodeo”;and
WHEREAS,because of Estes Park’s 7500-foot elevation,the
Rooftop Rodeo was billed as the rodeo held at the highest
altitude of any rodeo competition in America;and
WHEREAS,in 1994,1995,and 1996,the Rooftop Rodeo won the Mountain States
Cowboy’s Choice Award and in 2003 and 2006 was voted the Professional Rodeo
Cowboys Association Small Rodeo of the Year;and
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the Trustees of the
Town of Estes Park do hereby proclaim and recognize the Rooftop Rodeo has been
voted the
PROFESSIONAL RODEO COWBOYS ASSOCIATION
SMALL RODEO OF THE YEAR FOR 2008
and urge all citizens and visitors to join in the celebration of this honor.
