student regardless of ability,interest in learning,social or eco
nomic background,handicap,race,religion,creed,or ethnic
origin;and
WHEREAS,teachers offer counseling and support to students not
only
in their classrooms but throughout their years in school as
they prepare for their careers;and
WHEREAS,America depends on successful school instructional
programs
that meet the needs of every child;and
WHEREAS,teachers are carrying out a major responsibility in
preparing our young people to assume their role as effective
citizens;and
WHEREAS,teachers contribute to the economic growth of this
nation by providing students the skills that make them a viable
part of the work force;
NOW,THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that May 9,1989 is
hereby proclaimed National Teacher Day as a time for pub
lic recognition of teachers’contributions to the development of
this community and teachers’influence on the lives of all of us.
