HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION Longs Peak Scottish, Irish Highland Festival 2008-09-04(tt park,(otorabo to clamatlo II WHEREAS,Scottish and Irish history represent a rich and lasting heritage,full of pride,color,and celebration; and WHEREAS,the Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Highland Festival provides an opportunity to celebrate the unique culture and traditions of the Scottish and Irish people;and WHEREAS,the Town of Estes Park welcomes the clans and visitors who will be participating in the festival and its activities including piping and drumming competitions,dancing competitions,athletic events,and historical re-enactments; providing an entertaining event for everyone to enjoy;and WHEREAS,200$marks the 32nd anniversary of the first Longs Peak Scottish/Irish Highland Festival started by Dr.James Durward in 1977 and attended by four families.Over the years the event has grown and now attracts up to 75,000 people to the Estes Valley and provides an enhanced understanding of Scottish/Irish culture and history. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park proclaim September 4 through 7, 200$as the dates for celebration of the LONGS PEAK SCOTTISH/IRISH HIGHLAND FESTIVAL in the Town of Estes Park,Colorado and all citizens and visitors are invited and encouraged to join in the festivities.
