HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION Hondius, Pieter 2012-09-20Qtc arft,(tDotorabo ro clamatto II WHEREAS,the Pioneer Award recognizes individuals have,over time,contributed to the preservation understanding of the history of the Estes Valley,and WHEREAS,Pieter Hondius,the son and grandson of Pieter Hondius,Sr.,and William E.James,two of Estes Park’s pioneer settlers and early community leaders,has through his generosity and a lifetime of public service,honored the memories of both,and WHEREAS,Pieter Hondius,has served the Estes Park Museum as a board member,volunteer,mentor,resource,guide,and friend, contributing to its growth and stature for more than a half century, and has made the Museum the repository of family photographs and documents that can be shared with others,both now and in the future,and WHEREAS,Pieter Hondius,during the same period,freely and generously shared his abundant knowledge of Estes Park’s history as a speaker at numerous museum events,and WHEREAS,Pieter Hondius,through his pioneering work on the Estes Valley Land Trust and other conservation organizations,has simultaneously helped to preserve the natural scenic beauty of this special placed called Estes Park.It has been noted that whenever the cause of historic and scenic preservation has needed a champion,the voice of Pieter Hondius has been heard,and WHEREAS,Pieter Hondius has provided an inspirational model on ways of honoring and giving back to the community we love. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Trustees of the Town of Estes Park do hereby proclaim Pieter Hondius,the recipient of the 2012 Pioneer Award presented by the Estes Park Museum friends and foundation on this day,the 20th of September,2012. &A A Aftest September 20,2012 who and William C.Pinkham,Mayor ©2005 wwwMunicq 1AC (256)739-5951
