WhEREAS,a hometown newspaper is an enduring
chronicle of a community’s legacy and shared memory;and
MTHEREAS,the Estes Park Trail became a year-round
newspaper in April of 1921,being printed consistently ever since,
and merging with another Estes Park newspaper,the Mountain
Gazette,to become the Estes Park Trail-Gazette in 1971;and
WHEREAS,in 2021,the Estes Park Trail-Gazette is commemorating
its historic iooth Anniversary,having given readers a century of
essential news,including coverage of Estes Park’s boards,meetings,
and elections;reporting on local businesses;youth,schools,and sports
coverage;churches,civic life,arts and culture;and all the fascinating
people of past and present who give Estes Park its unique character and
enduring spirit;and
WHEREAS,the Estes Park Trail-Gazette has been recognized,during its
publication history,with awards for its professional journalism and
photography,including a best newspaper award from the National
Newspaper Association and multiple Best Newspaper awards from the
Colorado Press Association;and
WHEREAS,today,the Estes Park Trail-Gazette publishes a twice-weekly print
edition,a website updated daily,and a facebook page sharing Estes Park
information with readers across the nation;and many special publications
including Live Well,Estes and the Community Resource Guide;and
‘WHEREAS,the one-hundred-year archives of the Estes Park Trail-Gazette provide
an extraordinary’window into a history that informs our present-day community,and
digital online reproductions of these historic newspapers are now available,up
through March of 1965—with more years being added—free for everyone to access,
research,and enjoy.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of Trustees of
the Town of Estes Park do hereby recognize the
ESTES PARK TRAIL-GAZETTE
And do hereby find it an honor and distinct pleasure to present this proclamation
celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Estes Park Trail-Gazette and its vital role to
