HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION EPURA Commissioners 2010-07-27(tt ark,(!Lotorabo ro clamatlo a WHEREAS,on July 15,1982,an earthen dam on Lawn Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park collapsed,sending 36 million cubic feet of water flooding into downtown Estes Park;and WHEREAS,as a result of the Lawn Lake Flood,mud and debris filled 75%of the downtown businesses forcing merchants to close their doors in the middle of a busy tourist season;and WHEREAS,in response to Estes Park’s need for renewal caused by flood damage,and the annual flood of tourist traffic heading for Rocky Mountain National Park,in 1983 the Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority (EPURA)was formed and improvements outlined in a master plan for the Town were initiated;and WHEREAS,during its 25-year existence EPURA invested $20 million on public improvements which returned 2.5 times that amount in increased sales tax revenue;and WHEREAS,EPURA’s major projects include streetscape improvements, the Riverwalk,parking lots,the Conference Center,Bond Park, Performance Park,Wiest Plaza,and the Grandstand at Stanley Park Fairgrounds. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park do hereby honor the dedication and commitment of the individuals who served as EPURA commissioners, recognize the achievements of the Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority,and celebrate the beautiful enhancements to Estes Park’s downtown environment.
