HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION Emergency Preparedness MonthQEtt ]ark,QLotorabo to clamatlo It WHEREAS,emergency preparedness serves to strengthen the overall safety, well-being,confidence and peace of mind of individuals,families and businesses, reducing the risk of property loss,injuries and fatalities through preparedness;and WHEREAS,residents of the Estes Valley have faced heightened concerns in recent years due to flooding,drought and fire dangers;and WHEREAS,local agency partners including the Town of Estes Park,Estes Park Police Department,Estes Valley Fire Protection District and Estes Park Medical Center are committed to work together on emergency preparedness,response and recovery from all emergency incidents whether natural or man-made;and WHEREAS,in 2014 Estes Park voters approved a sales tax initiative,with a portion of that revenue to be used for emergency response in the Town,including updates and expansion of the Town’s Emergency Operations and Continuity of Operations Plans in 2016;and WHEREAS,the Town uses “Estes 1470 AM”—a Highway Advisory Radio Station -for enhanced emergency communications,and is working with CDOT to install signage to alert drivers to emergency information on this station;and WHEREAS,the Estes Park Police use the Everbridge Aware system to notify residents of emergency situations including wildfires,floods,missing persons and criminal activity,and in 2016 this will be expanded to allow visitors to “text to opt-in”to these local alerts;and WHEREAS,the Fire District is committed to providing Fire and Life Safety Education to the public, including Wildland Urban Interface education,and it provides a free,semi-annual slash collection in the spring and fall to assist local residents in developing defensible space on their properties;and WHEREAS,the Fire District provides a free smoke alarm to residents who cannot afford them;and WHEREAS,the Town of Estes Park,Larimer County Emergency Management,Larimer Voluntary Agencies Active in Disaster and VisionLink will offer a free public workshop on “How to Prepare for Anything”May 5th;and WHEREAS,the annual Estes Park Public Safety Fair on May 21St provides an opportunity for families to heat from and see demonstrations by mote than 20 regional public safety agencies. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park do hereby proclaim May 2016, EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS MONTH in the Town of Estes Park,Colorado,and encourage all residents to take proactive steps to develop and nurture prudent r-’diness strategies for preparedness in the event of an evacuation or emergency.
