‘WHEREAS,the Town of Estes Park,Colorado has
been the beneficiary of Dr.James Durward’s talents,
creativity,energy,selfless dedication,community
philanthropy,and building community engagement;
and
WHEREAS,Dr.Durward attended Colorado State
University (Colorado A&M College),graduated from the
College of Dentistry at Indiana University Medical Center
in Indianapolis and established his Dentistry Office in
Estes Park in 1967,at 235 W.Ellthorn,and
WHEREAS,he built the “Big Wheel”and adjoining
buildings at the West end of Ellthorn Boulevard in 1976,
which was home to his Dentist Office until his retirement
from practice in 2005,and
‘‘VI]EREAS,Dr.Durward served as President of the original
Estes Park Chamber of Commerce starting in 1971,and
‘WHERAS,in 1976,Dr.Durward founded the Longs Peak
Scottish-Irish Highland Festival,(Scotfest),with the first festival
commencing at Centennial Plaza with half a dozen participants
and a Parade that “marched”on the sidewalks,to Bond Park for a
Celebration,and
‘WHEREAS,2019 marked the 43rd consecutive year of the Scoffest
in Estes Park,the “Celtic Capital of North America”,a four day Event
including a gathering of the Clans from all across North America,
Celtic music,dance,food,spirits,souvenirs,dogs,jousting,the
Saturday morning parade,and a three night Military Tattoo featuring
many world renowned Pipe and Marching Bands,and
WHEREAS,after 43 years at the helm of the Scotfest,Dr.Durward has
now passed the leadership torch to his daughter Peggy Young.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the
Trustees of the Town of Estes Park do hereby recognize,
Dr.James Durward
And do herby find it an honor and distinct pleasure to present this
Proclamation in recognition of his many contributions and the joy he has
brought to the Town of Estes Park.
