USA is experiencing an
among adults and children,
WHEREAS,the Salud Foundation and Salud
Family Health Center’s Estes Park Healthy People
Project was awarded a generous grant by the
Colorado Trust,administered by the Fort Collins Area
United Way to determine the incidence of overweight
and obesity in the Estes Valley and create strategies
to reduce the incidence,and
IATHE1{EAS,924 residents of Estes Park had their body mass
index (BMI)measured,39%of whom were found to be overweight
or obese,and
WHEREAS,the Surgeon General has stated that obesity is
directly linked to many serious medical problems such as heart
disease,type II diabetes,high blood pressure,stroke,certain
cancers and osteoarthritis.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,that the Mayor and
Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park proclaim May 1-31,
2003 as
Community Exercise Awareness Month
BE IF FURTHER RESOLVED that all citizens are encouraged
to participate in the Estes Park Healthy People Project’s
Community Exercise Awareness Month by establishing a healthy
lifestyle through daily exercise,healthy eating,and weight
reduction in order to promote the well-being of this and future
generations.a’
