HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION Cheley Family 2013 Pioneer AwardJark,(!Lotorabo to clamatto II WHEREAS,in 1921 Frank Howbert Cheley established the Bear Lake Trail School on the shores of Bear Lake,making it possible for boys ages 10-17 to experience the out-of- doors and its physical,social,moral values amidst the unspoiled wilderness of Rocky Mountain National Park beginning a summer tradition now in its 93rd year;and WHEREAS,when by 1927,the Bear Lake Trail School, now renamed Camp Haiyaha,had outgrown its lakeside facilities,Frank Chetey transferred it to “Land of Peaks Ranch”on the northern slope of Twin Sisters Mountain, where in 192$the season opened with four camps—Camp Haiyaha,Camp Chipeta,Camp Chipeta Junior,and Camp Ski Hi—to form Chetey Colorado Camps;and WHEREAS,in the years that followed,“Cheleyville”continued to grow,adding Trails End Ranch for Boys in 1937,and Trails End Ranch for Girls in 1941,both located near Glen Haven;and WHEREAS,in all the summers since,the Cheley Family,now in its fourth generation,has continued to provide campers with the same Fun-Plus philosophy that Frank Cheley developed at Bear Lake,a philosophy that has brought thousands of young people from every state of the union and from many foreign countries to this special place called Estes Park,molding and changing their lives;and WHEREAS,thanks to the unselfish dedication of members of the Cheley Family,cherished memories of summers here in Estes Park have inspired countless numbers of former Cheley campers to become good ambassadors from Estes Park to the world. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and Trustees of the Town of Estes Park do hereby congratulate and thank the Cheley Family on the occasion of being named the recipient of the 2013 PIONEER AWARD by the Estes Park Museum friends &Foundation,Inc. ©2005 ww.MunicpaiA In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and cau ed is seal to b affixed.
