HomeMy WebLinkAboutPROCLAMATION Bike to Work, Bike to Play Activities 2015Qtt arft,otorbo ro clamatto II WHEREAS,the bicycle is a viable and environmentally sound method of transportation and an excellent form of recreation;and WHEREAS,Colorado is a premiere bicycling state, recognizing the month of June as Colorado Bike Month with many events around the state;and WHEREAS,in November 2014,the Town of Estes Park was recognized with an Honorable Mention by the League of American Bicyclists for its efforts to improve the well-being of the community through bike and pedestrian friendliness;and WHEREAS,the National Household Travel Survey showed that the number of trips made by bicycles in the U.S.more than doubled from 1.7 billion in 2001,to 4 billion in 2009;and INHEREAS,the education of bicyclists and motorists as to the proper and safe operation of bicycles is important to ensure the safety and comfort of all users;and WHEREAS,bicycle commuting benefits both employees and employers through better employee health and fitness;reduced commuting and parking costs;and WHEREAS,the Estes Park Board of Trustees encourages everyone to consider participating in Bike to Work,Bike to Play Week activities June 17-30,including Bike to Work Day June 24,to learn more about bicycle safety,and to consider bicycling more often. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and the Trustees of the Town of Estes Park do hereby proclaim the week of June 17 -June 30, 2015,as a celebration of BIKE TO WORK,BIKE TO PLAY ACTIVITIES in Estes Park and encourage citizens to try bicycling as a fun and sensible mode of transportation and recreation.
