HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION 17-98RESOLUTION NO.17-98 WHEREAS,the Town of Estes Park,in cooperation with other organizations including Larimer County,agree that noxious weeds are the largest threat to wildlife habitats on public and private land,second only to wildfires;and WHEREAS,noxious weeds are generally defined as non-native species that have been introduced from foreign countries.The disease pathogens and predators that keep these species in check in their native setting,did not accompany the seed of these plants when they were inadvertently introduced to our ecosystems, usually mixed with seed stock;and WHEREAS,many of these noxious weeds have the unique ability to kill their competition by exuding chemicals from themselves to be absorbed by the competitive vegetation;and WHEREAS,the Larimer County Weed Control District is funded by a mill levy of .142 mills assessed on property within the District boundaries,whose area is currently approximately 288,000 acres;and WHEREAS,Referred Issue 1A is seeking to expand the Larimer County Weed Control District boundaries to include Estes Park, and Larimer County in it’s entirety;and WHEREAS,if the referendum passes,the boundary would be increased to approximately 1.7 million acres,with an increased mill levy of .190 mills assessed on property within the District, which,for a home valued at $160,000,would result in approximately $2.96/yr. NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE TOWN OF ESTES PARK,COLORADO: 1.The Board of Trustees of the Town of Estes Park hereby supports Larimer County Referred Issue 1A,expanding the Larimer County Weed Control District,including the associated mill levy increase from .142 mills to .190 mills.
