Candidate: Kirby Nelson-Hazelton
Years in Estes Park: 14 years (since August 2011)
Prior Experience - Career Information: My professional experience is concentrated in marketing and
communications. I also have been a small business owner here in Estes Park, and I am proud to be a Girls
Soccer coach at Estes Park High School.
Previous Participation on Town Boards or Committees: Town: Board of Trustees (April 2022-present); Parks
Advisory Board (2020-2022); Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee (2021-2022). Community: ENN
(formerly EPNRC) Board (2016-2022); Estes Chamber of Commerce (2019-2021), EVPC (2011-2019).
Educational Background: Bachelor of Arts, Economics & Business - Colorado College (Colorado Springs,
CO)
Narrative:*
It has been a privilege to serve as your Trustee for the past four years. I have often said that this is the hardest
and best job I've ever had, and it's certainly one I don't take lightly.
I believe that my personal, professional, and volunteer experience have helped me understand the depth and
complexity of issues facing the Estes Valley. I am long-time resident (over 14 years) married to an even longer-
time resident (over 26 years). I am a member of the workforce and have been employed by local taxing districts,
small businesses, and myself, as an entrepreneur (sometimes all at the same time!). I have been a part of Town
government via resident committees and of course, the Board of Trustees, and I've volunteered for over a
decade on local boards, including for our business organizations and nonprofits.
My platform has never been issue-based. While I will always truthfully share where I stand on hot topics, I
believe the chances of us agreeing 100% of the time are slim! My hope is that you will choose me to be your
representative because of my commitment to do the work, listen to all viewpoints, think strategically, and
maintain balanced vision for our community.
