EXISTING STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS ARE TO BE DEMOLISHED OR MODIFIED.
2. PROVIDE TEMPORARY BUILDING AND SITE BARRICADES WHERE AND WHEN
NECESSARY.
3. PROVIDE TEMPORARY ENCLOSURE FOR SECURITY AND WEATHER
RESISTANCE.
4. CONDITIONS DEPICTED ON THESE DRAWINGS HAVE BEEN COMPILED FROM
AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND MUST BE VERIFIED WITH ON-SITE CONDITIONS.

FOUNDATION DESIGN:
A. DESIGN OF PIERS BASED ON A MAXIMUM ALLOWABLE BEARING PRESSURE OF
2500 LBS PER SQUARE FOOT (DEAD LOAD PLUS FULL LIVE LOAD) PLACED ON THE
UNDISTURBED NATURAL SOILS, COMPACTED STRUCTURAL FILL OR NATIVE STONE,
BELOW FROST DEPTH.
CAST-IN-PLACE CONCRETE:
A. ALL CONCRETE DESIGN IS BASED ON THE "BUILDING CODE REQUIREMENTS FOR
REINFORCED CONCRETE" (ACI 318).
B. ALL STRUCTURAL CONCRETE SHALL HAVE MINIMUM 28-DAY COMPRESSIVE
STRENGTH AS FOLLOWS: PIERS 3000 PSI.
C. CONCRETE SHALL BE PROPORTIONED UTILIZING TYPE 1/11 CEMENT. CONCRETE
SUSCEPTIBLE TO FREEZING SHALL BE FORMULATED FOR MAXIMUM FROST
RESISTANCE IN ACCORDANCE WITH "ACI MANUAL OF CONCRETE PRACTICE".
D. COLD WEATHER AND/OR HOT WEATHER CONCRETING PROCEDURES SHALL BE
PROVIDED, IF CONDITIONS WARRANT, AS RECOMMENDED IN THE "ACI MANUAL OF
CONCRETE PRACTICE".
E. ALL ANCHOR BOLTS SHALL BE LOCATED AT A MINIMUM OF 5 BOLT DIAMETERS
FROM CONCRETE EDGE. CONCRETE FOOTING AND FOUNDATION SHALL HAVE MIN
FROST PROTECTION OF 30" TO GRADE. EXTERIOR DECK PIERS SHALL BE POURED TO
ELEVATIONS AS SHOWN ON PLANS.
F. CONTRACTOR VERIFY TOP OF CONCRETE ELEVATIONS WITH EXISTING AND
PROPOSED GRADE.
REINFORCING STEEL:
A. EACH NEW PIER TO HAVE (3) #4 REBAR PLACED VERTICALLY
B. ANCHOR BOLTS SHALL CONFORM TO ASTM F1554 GRADE 36 WITH A MIN ½"
DIAMETER BY 12" LENGTH.
FRAMING NOTES
STRUCTURAL WOOD FRAMING:
A. ALL LUMBER FOR PERGOLA SHALL BE CEDAR OR EXTERIOR RATED MATERIAL.
B. 2X6 STUDS SHALL BE DOUGLAS FIR-LARCH #2 OR BETTER. 2X4 STUDS SHALL BE
STUD GRADE OR BETTER DOUGLAS FIR-LARCH OR HEM-FIR UNLESS NOTED
OTHERWISE ON THE DRAWINGS.
C. PROVIDE SOLID BLOCKING AT SUPPORTS WITHIN JOIST SPACES BENEATH SOLID
OR BUILT-UP COLUMNS NOTED ON PLANS, BLOCKING OF AREA EQUIVALENT TO
COLUMN ABOVE SHALL BE PROVIDED FOR PROPER LOAD TRANSFER.
D. PROVIDE WIND/SEISMIC ANCHORS AT SUPPORTS. ANCHOR TYPE SHALL BE
APPROVED BY STRUCTURAL ENGINEER.
E. ALL WOOD FRAMING MEMBERS IN CONTACT WITH CONCRETE OR CMU SHALL BE
EITHER CEDAR OR PRESSURE TREATED.
F. ALL ARCHITECTURALLY EXPOSED BEAMS TO BE WEATHER-RESISTANT WITH
STAINED FINISH.
SITE PLAN GENERAL NOTES
1. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOCATIONS AND
PROTECTION OF ALL EXISTING UTILITIES SHOWN OR NOT SHOWN ON THESE
PLANS. CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE RESPECTIVE
UTILITY COMPANIES TO HAVE ALL OF THEIR UTILITIES AND FACILITIES LOCATED
PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.

TIMBERS AND FASTENERS
STRUCTURAL TIMBERS:
Timber beams illustrated on this page are to be Cedar or similarly exterior rated wood.
FASTENERS:
All fasteners at timber connections are to be FastenMaster Structural Wood Screws w/ a min .228 ϕ.
Pre-drill and install (3) Thrulok fasteners at each timber to timber connection w/ a min. 4" embedment in
subsequent main timber. Use (2) 8" ThruLoks at each end of each 6x6 knee brace, min. 4" embedment in
subsequent main timber. Use (3) 5" Ledgerloks at each post to rim connection, at corner post use (4), (2 each
side). Ensure solid blocking of an area equivalent to column area above to provide proper load transfer, use
Simpson LSTA 24 strapping from existing lower post to rim connection. Use (1) 8" Thrulok at each 2x6 to
6x12 beam connection. Use (1) exterior rated screw at each 2x2 to 2x6 connection.
