RE: Storage Room Addition Foundation 1765 Olympian Lane Estes Park, CO 80517 A new storage room addition is proposed adjacent to and attached to the existing shop building (pole barn) at the above mentioned address. A design drawing prepared by Macdonald & Associates detailing the storage room addition was provided to me for specific review of the foundation interface between the existing building and the proposed storage room addition. The foundation detail shows the new storage room addition foundation slab doweled to the existing foundation slab. This is necessary since the new storage room structure is attached to and supported by the existing shop building structure. In my opinion, it is an acceptable detail in regards to doweling the foundations together as long as both the existing shop and new storage room are conditioned the same (heated or unheated) to ensure there will not be differential movement between the foundations. My understanding is and as noted on the design drawing both spaces are intended to be heated and insulated. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call me at 970-586-9388.
