Khachaturian 55436 General Contractor: Docter Construction ATTN: Cari Docter RE: Relocating deck footing Doctor Construction has contracted Sky Pond Engineering to evaluate a new beam at 1900 Axell Rd., Estes Park, CO 80517. The beam will be located on the southeast corner of the deck and will relocate a footing that would otherwise land on the house’s main line. The following are Sky Pond Engineering’s recommendations: A 4x10 Douglas Fir-Larch no.1 or equivalent shall be used to support the deck post. The beam shall be up to 5’ long, with the deck post landing on the beam so that the distance from the ends of the beam to the post equals a 60/40 split. A site visit (March 22nd, 2024) took place at 1900 Axell Rd., Estes Park in order to inspect a west interior foundation footing formwork and rebar. These inspections included measuring footing for overall plan dimensions, depth, and width. The number of rebars, their locations, and their diameter was also reviewed. It was observed that the setup was in general conformance with the structural drawings and details. The soil was visually inspected and appeared to be predominantly decomposed granite similar to sandy gravel and gravel with minimal amounts of silt and clay. Per IBC 1806.2, a reasonable presumptive load -bearing value for this type of soil is 2,500psf, corresponding to the GW (well-graded gravel) and GP (poorly graded gravel) categories within the Unified Soil Classification System (USCS) Matthew Khachaturian, P.E., P.M.P Sky Pond Engineering PO Box 1497 Estes Park, CO, 80517 504-940-8278 3/26/24
