Thank you for the opportunity to review the above noted project for conformance with the
adopted 2018 International Fire Code (IFC), District-specific amendments, and applicable
reference standards. The Estes Valley Fire Protection District (EVFPD) is dedicated to ensuring
the safety of residents, guests, and the volunteers who respond to assist you.
Based upon the information submitted, the drawings/documents shall be considered
APPROVED provided the following requirements are satisfied in full:
1. IFC 106.2 Schedule of permit fees- Fees apply for this project in accordance with the
District fee schedule in the amount of $500.00. This includes the minimum plan review
fees for commercial alterations to existing buildings.
Payment will be collected on behalf of the Estes Valley Fire Protection District through
the Town of Estes Park’s permitting system.
2. IFC 505.1 Premises identification- Approved addressing shall be provided for all
buildings, units, and monument signs.
Plan Review Commentary: Please coordinate with this office directly for specific
addressing/signage requirements. It appears that this building is incorrectly
addressed; the legal address noted on Larimer County property records is 113 East
Elkhorn Avenue. Correct addressing shall be assigned and posted.
Addressing shall be a minimum of 4 inches in height, shall be white text of a plain
font on a blue background, shall have a reflective quality, and shall be posted in
locations approved by this office so as to be readily distinguishable for first
responders on both the building and any monument signs.
3. IFC Section 906, Portable fire extinguishers- Portable fire extinguishers shall be
installed in accordance with IFC 906 and NFPA 10, 2018 edition.
Plan Review Commentary:
In the event that they are not already provided in the existing portion(s) of the
building(s), portable fire extinguishers shall be required. Please coordinate with this
office directly to determine approved locations and placement.
Portable fire extinguishers/cabinets shall be mounted at 48 inches to the top of the
extinguisher to comply with ADA recommendations. Portable fire extinguishers shall
be a dry chemical-type, and a minimum size of 2-A:10-B:C for all spaces. Portable
fire extinguishers shall be inspected and tagged by a qualified fire extinguisher
contractor prior to being placed in service. Portable fire extinguishers shall be a
commercial grade, such as manufactured by Amerex, Sentry, or equivalent.
Consumer grade extinguishers manufactured by Kidde or First Alert are not approved
by this office.
4. IFC, Chapter 33, Fire Safety During Construction and Demolition- It shall be the
responsibility of the general contractor to ensure all provision of IFC Chapter 33 are met
in full for the duration of construction. Please include this in your general job safety
practices, training, and routine meetings.
