RE: ROOF/CEILING PENETRATIONS PAGES: 1
Mr. Birchfield,
In consideration of the roof/ceiling penetrations on the Harmony Detox project, we are of the opinion
that the 3-hr. (UL 555 listed) fire dampers installed at the ceiling membrane of the 1-hr rated
roof/ceiling assembly provide a reasonable equivalent of achieving the intent of the code section
716.6.2 Membrane Penetrations, Item 2, 2009 International Building Code. We further feel that the
additional life-safety provisions of a fully sprinkled building, fire alarm system and duct mounted smoke
detectors provide a reasonable standard of care for the building occupants.
As discussed on-site, the dampers will need to be installed per the manufacturer’s installation details
(2-sided Mounting Angle) including: sleeve termination supplemental instructions, breakaway
connections, mounting angles and sealing. This condition occurs at the (7) exhaust air ducts (sleeves
to be a minimum of 16 gauge) and the supply and return connections to the RTU (sleeves to be a
minimum of 14 gauge).
Please call with any additional questions.
Respectfully,
MATT DWORAK
Project Manager
