The main reason is that the race would have to take place in late July or early August rather than in June as promised by Red Zinger officials last year. Other reasons include an initial cost of $5,000 and the difficulty encountered by the Chamber of Commerce last year in working with the race officials. Bob Ferguson, Steve Patrick, Lois Schmidt, and Doug Bruinsma commented pro and con on last year's race and on the value of continuing the race in Estes Park. Jim Ranglos stated that he believed most objections center around the proposed dates occurring during the busiest time of the tourist season and perhaps the races could be hosted in future years during the month of June. It was suggested and the Committee encouraged the Chamber of Commerce to negotiate with Red Zinger officials to hold the races in Estes Park this summer but to use a different race course which would not interfere with downtown traffic and shopping. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. Joan fan Horn, Town Clerk MAR 11 1980
