You are correct. Your last electric bill was very high considering the small amount of use between September 8 and October 7. The high demand, of course, was the reason for this. The demand reading was 32.4 kilowatts when actually 8 to 10 kilowatts probably would have been sufficient. Controlling the demand might have saved you close to $100 on this particular bill. The attached copy of our November 15, 1985 mailing to you indicates we did advise a demand controller be installed in order for the demand rate to be as economical as possible for you. In visiting with Fred DeHaan, he said it would not be hard to add a controller to your electric system. In fact, they made provisions for one while they were there. You will note there is a 60% "ratchet" in the demand metered tariff. This means that your lowest billing demand for the next eleven months will be 60% of 32.4 kilowatts, or 19.44 kilowatts. However, if you do have a controller installed, we will see if P. O. Box 1200 Tt•Irphone (303) 586-53-11 I c p.vn of Estes Park Estes Park, Colorado 80517 General Urbon Wise November 3, 1986 Page 2 that minimum can be reduced somewhat so you will get more benefit from the controller sooner. Genshiemer's situation is about the same but only about one-third the magnitude. The same solution would aapply for him. If you have questions, please contact us. Estes Park, Colorado 80517 December 19, 1986 Gen. Urbon Wise Box 99 Sulphur, Louisiana 70663 Dear General Wise: Fred DeHaan told us your demand controller has been installed. We appreciate that. It will help keep your electric bill at a reasonable level. It also will contribute toward keeping our system peak demand from being so high. We are able to make a one time 20% adjustment to a customer's high demand if we have documentation from a manufacturer that their demand controller malfunctioned. We will stretch our rules somewhat in your case and reduce the high demand at your home by 40%. The following computations indicate the resulting figures. Before Adjustment High Demand - October 1986 32.4 Kw Minimum monthly billing demand (60% x 32.4) 19.44 Kw Minimum monthly bills through Sept. 1987 ($4.80 x 19.44) 93.31 Reduced by 4% for owning line extension equals 89.58 Adjustment High Demand - October, 1986 32.4 Kw Reduced by 40% equals 19.44 Kw Minimum monthly billing demand (60% x 19.44) 11.664 Kw Minimum monthly bill through Sept. 1987 ($4.80 x 11.664) 55.99 Reduced by 4% for owning line extension equals 53.75 Monthly savings ($89.58 - $53.75) 35.83 Times 9 months equals savings of $332.47 P 0. Urbon Wise · ' December 19, 1986 Page 2 By October, 1987 a new lower maximum demand should be established for billing purposes, providing actual demands do not exceed the adjusted high demand of 19.44 Kw in the interim. For billing purposes and in line with the explanation given for our adjustment to Wise's, we will reduce this demand by 40%. This is twice the amount we really have authority to do. The following shows the results of the adjustment: High Demand - December, 1986 22.4 Kw Minimum monthly billing demand (60% x 22.4) , 13.44 Minimum monthly bills through Nov. 1987 ($4.80 x 13.44) 64.51 Adjustments High Demand - December, 1986 22.4 Kw Reduced by 40% equals 13.44 Kw Minimum monthly billing demand (60% x 13.44) 8.064 Kw Minimum monthly bills through Nov, 1987 ($4.80 x 8.064) 38.71 Monthly Savings ($64.51 - $38.71) 25.80 Times 11 months equals savings of $283.80 If you have any questions concerning this, please let me know.
