We are very pleased that Toronto has been selected as the site of the 1986 Annual Conference. Toronto is a city of diverse neighborhoods and glittering landmark skyscrapers. The Huron Indians must have had a premonition when they named "Toronto" for the word in Huron means "meeting place." The city mixes the historic and the modern in a distinctive arclitectural blend, and is renowned for its many trees and parks. People of nearly eighty nationalities reside within metropolitan Toronto. The average temperature in June is usually 70-80 degrees. The evenings may be cool so a lightweight coat or sweater is advisable. Of course, comfortable shoes for walking are recommended. This year, Canadian suppliers and Smith Barney will be hosting the Early Bird Party, to be held Sunday evening, June 15 for all attendees. The conference program begins on Monday morning, June 16. A full non-delegates program includes continental breakfasts on Monday and Wednesday mornings, with tours scheduled on Monday and Tuesday. Tour on Monday, June 16 will be a "Get Acquainted" bus tour of Toronto, which includes, the downtown financial district, the midtown section, and uptown Toronto. A few of the attractions will be: the Old Towne of York, where Toronto had its beginnings; Old and New City Halls; Ontario Parliament Buildings; Ontario Place; art museums and other sites. You will stop at the city's "fairy-tale" castle - Casa Loma, built so that its owners Sir Henry Pallett, could entertain royalty in the early 1900's. Tour on Tuesday, June 17 will begin with brunch at the Old Mill. This charming site is renowned for its fine food, atmosphere and collection of artifacts reflecting Canadian history. Next you will visit Black Creek Pioneer Village, a re-creation of an Ontario townshio of tne mid 1800's. Afterwards you will journey to Kleinburg, a picturesque Town to the North of Toronto which is the home of the world-renowned McMichael Collection of Canadian Art. Refreshments will be available. Two APPA soonsored events will be enjoyed by everyone. On Tuesday evening, June 17 there will be an elegant evening at the Roy Thomson Hall with the Hamilton Philharmonic. The conference will conclude with the APPA President's reception and luncheon at Noon on Wednesday in the Sheraton Centre Grand Ballroom. We ara looking foward to welcoming you to Toronto this June. Sincerely, A c ke 4 16.- ~Glia A. Shea /Chairman, Non-Delegates Local Arrangements Committee JAS/bo Forl
