Water Department I/U ® ESTES PARK COLORADO Memo TO: Utilities Committee From: Jeff Boles, Water Superintendent Date: September 10, 2009 Subject: Mary's Lake WTP Expansion Update The remaining Pall Corporation temporary water treatment unit was removed from site on August 20th The GE/Zenon FSR has completed the glycerin flush of the first stage membranes. We worked with Upper Thompson Sanitation District and discharge of this volume was completed on September 3rd. The second stage membrane glycerin flush will begin today. Air line testing is underway and when finished the membrane can be tested for any fiber testing. A portion of the west side sedimentation walls have darkened in color and representatives from National Coatings (product manufacturer) have been on site to take samples to determine the cause, while waiting for the sample results the basins walls were cleaned on August 31 St. The representatives said that if the lab results indicated any failure of the epoxy coating they would remove and re-install the coating to ensure its quality and reliability. Although this would take some time to accomplish it will not affect the commissioning schedule since the east side flocculation and sedimentation basins remain operational. Moltz Construction is working on remaining punch list items. The exterior grading is done, hydro seeding is scheduled to take place in September and they plan on removing all the heavy equipment from the site this week. Punch list items and Input/Output (I/O) checks on electrical equipment are ongoing. The Commissioning Schedule has not changed, estimating water production by October 20th. Fl' 2 111 .C! Brittany Harris is a Junior in Geography and wants to specialize in GIS Studies. Brittany approached Director Goehring about doing an internship in his department, and was subsequently hired. Brittany's duties included being an active member of the IT/GIS team, where specific ... responsibilities included logging and cataloging Town owned property and making the data readily available to all other Town departments. Some of the features Brittany worked with included: Light Poles, Street Light, Waste Cans, Flower Beds, Dog Boxes, Stop Lights, Stop Signs, Trails, Vertical Control Monuments, Water Lines, Fire Hydrants, Power Distribution Systems, etc. With each of the items it was her responsibility to GPS each item, photograph it, then to correct the data, put it in a database by department, put it in layer file of a map and hyperlink each object to its image file. In her free time, she put in time working closely with the Information Technology aspect of the department. Brittany worked hard to acquire as much and as broad knowledge as she could during her time here. She is here to present the highlights of her work for the GIS and IT departments. Brittany did an outstanding job, and never failed to come in motivated and ready to do or learn more. Steve Barlow GIS / PC support Town of Estes Park
