The purpose of the grant is to assist mountain property owners working through their Homeowners group, along with the Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department and Larimer County to become more Fire Wise, by providing mobile chipping sites for trees and brush. PROGRAM BENIFITS: The participating Homeowners community will be provided with an economical and safe means of disposing of slash from their property in hope of reducing the wildfire hazards, providing a defensible space around their home and developing an awareness of the wildfire situation. Wildfire prevention/protection information will be made available at the chipping sites, by the Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department (EPVFD). The Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department will receive benefit by the reduction of the fire load in the wildland/ urban interface corridor. In addition, the EPVFD will receive benefits in the form of wildland fire-fighting tools to help us protect the homes in our area. SITE SELECTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Collection/disposal sites will be selected based on the need for mitigation, availability and access of the site and the prioritizing of the site based on the included questionnaire. Once a site has been selected the Homeowners group will be notified and a date and time will be set. The Homeowners group will be responsible for the removal of the chipped material, which can be given away as mulch. The site will be manned by the chipper operator (determined by Larimer County), representatives of the Homeowners group and members of the Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department. MOBILE CHIPPING PROGRAM SITE EVALUATION SURVEY Name of Homeowners group: Contact Person: Phone Location of site: Dates of Operation (ANSWER YES OR NO) The Homeowners Community has an active Forestry Committee or other group that addresses wildfire hazard mitigation needs and activities. The Homeowners group sponsors at least one wildfire hazard mitigation meeting for the community annually. The Homeowners group develops a newsletter, sent to all members of the Homeowners community, that addresses wildfire hazard mitigation on a seasonal basis. The Homeowners group maintains a small library of materials and information related to - wildfire hazard mitigation for use by the community members and new residents. The Homeowners group has developed a Wildfire Mitigation Plan or similar plan with measurable goals. The Homeowners community currently hFs covenants which encourage (or at least do not discourage or prohibit) thinning of trees and vegetation for wildfire mitigation. A site exists within the Homeowners community which is approved by the Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department for collection and disposal. The site proposals will be evaluated, chosen and approved by the following agency representatives: Tony Simons, Wildfire Safety Coordinator, Larimer County Tom Garton, Building Official, Larimer County Mike Babler, District Forester, Colorado State Forest Service Scott Dorman, Fire Chief, Estes Park Volunteer Fire Department (for the Estes Park area only) Site Approved(yes/no) M 2 Lo roo to (993" M r- r O 00 0 a) (D C.J C)If)COOrt'(9"r-OOT-"r-0 00 9- r r- r- 00 4-LOO =000 00 9- r--OCOCNIC\110 er-1-000 0 0 0 W ot Q W W M 1.- 4 -1 -1- 4 to 4 1.- O E ul J U.
