For consideration by your members I outline the points that were discussed: (a The double life-size piece would be carved out of either Colorado Yule marble or Italian Carara marble, from a 1400 to 1500 pound block. (b The Special Events Committee is on the agenda of the next Public Works meeting of the town to ask for approval for 3 the erection of a working platform and the use of that area in -/ Bond Park for the summer for the creation of the piece. (c The Joel Estes Family Association has been contacted and are very supportive of the project and will seek a contribution to the effort from their board of directors. (d Financing: The entire cost of the project, including the base would be $9,000. 1. We are asking EPURA to fund the start up costs of $3,300. This would include the cost and transportation of the marble, the erection of the working platform, the research and start up cost of the artist. 2. The remaining $5,700 will be raised through a donation box and special events coordinated and run by the Chamber Special Events Committee, plus donations, such as from the Estes family. The artists remaining fee would come out of this amount. Tom's interest in this project is such that he will take his chance on his fee being raised from the contribution side of the project. We respectfully request only the $3,300 from EPURA to get this project·started in Estes Park by mid June. Thank you for your consideration. Thomas Meagher Miller was born in Mankato, Minn. March 10, 1960 Both of his grandfathers were woodcarvers, which was Tom's background until the art professors at Laguna Beach School of ARt put stonecarving tools into his talented hands. In the five years since his graduation in 1980 the young sculptor has created some two dozen pieces, five of which have produced national media attention. His bust of Isabella Lucy Bird will be unveiled during the "Hands Across the Nation" luncheon on June 7, 1986. The bust will then be on display June 8-July 8 at the Estes Park Historical Museum, and July 9-September 9 at the Rocky Mountain National Park Visitor Center. 3
