BACKGROUND: We would like to request the approval of the closing of MacGregor Ave. between Elkhom Ave. and Park Lane on Sunday, January 27~ 2008 between the hours of 7:30 - 3:00. This event is also requesting the use of the Town Board room and lobby to do race registration. Security for the building will be addressed with appropriate staff. These requests are similar to past race requests and the race should be done as in the past. BUDGET/COST: N/A ACTION: Approve these requests so the Frost Giant can continue. 1 Estes Park - Convention & Visitors Bureau Memo To: Community Development Committee From: Peter Marsh, Director of Communications CC: Randy Repola, Jacquie Halburnt, Tom Pickering Date: December 18, 2007 Re: CVB Marketing Committee - December Report REPORTS: as of November 30 1. 2007 Visitors Guide Requests - Year-to-clate comparisons show guide requests off the pace by 8.8%, which is a slight improvement over end of October numbers. Still, the total is ahead of 2003 and 2004, and very close to 2005. 2. Visitors Guide Downloads - up by 21% over 2006 year-to-date. The degree to which this activity impacts the volume of requests for hardcopies is impossible to determine at this point. A couple more years of experience should give us a new baseline if, indeed, a new baseline is appropriate. 3. WATS line calls - up by 3.71% which equates to 581 calls over this period last year. This rate of increase has been stable for enough months in 2007 that we can almost view it as natural volume growth. 4. Magazine Advertising - ad generated requests for visitors guides are off the pace by 13.3%. Well over half of that decline is due to readership service problems with two magazines. The rest appears to be attributable to softness in our coastal markets. 5. Internet Advertising - a. Google Keyword campaign continues to perform at a very efficient cost per dick of $0.31. b. Colorado.com national campaign is still holding a click-through rate of 1.73% compared to their average rate of 0.02%. c. Regional advertising for Christmas Shopping is not complete as of this report date. 6. Web Activity Report - I have attached comparative Web Search Engine Optimization reports. The top set of numbers is from February of 2005. The lower set of numbers is from the past November. The fill in as well as the improved ranking is impressive. To put these numbers in perspective, of our Search Engine referrals 78.4% are Google, 12.8% are Yahoo, 4.3% are AOL, 2.9% are MSN. The remaining 1.6% is spread over all the others. 1 ACTION ITEM: None BACKGROUND: N/A BUDGET/COST: N/A RECOMMENDATION: N/A • Page 2 CON lili 1111 1 8 09™ i,i, 8., ,9, E ir)(D ~00ht.010-<D 0 0 I I 0> 0 I - O 0 CD CON '11, col 1 1 IC)1 O ¢9 CO O 1010 N.-2 O 0 O CD lilli 91 1 lili @Ne 8 1 Co LD N C iII 0 0, CDCD IX., 0 00 co 00 0) „ r- 0 10 © 5 10 0 2 - LU LU W 0) CD CD 000„ 11,1 gooDINS,900 .& lf) 9 892 EM= 0 0 0 E E E 0 Aer)22 , 'w .2 N 9- 9- .32 •- 9- r 9- r- CO 0 <C < -1 C\Ir lili 111111 (9 <9 0 10 10 h - 2 <C CC cD CN" ,1,1 111111 NCNI 4% HOOSLONS! November Visitors Center Traffic The center experienced a 13% increase in Visitors Center traffic over November, 2006. We had 8,284 visitors this November, an average of 286 people per day. Last year, we saw an average of 252 people each day, for a total of 7,311. 2. November Telephone Calls Visitor Services staff fielded nearly the same number of calls this November as last November: a total of 973 calls this year, as opposed to 983 calls in 2006. For both years, this is an average of about 34 calls per day. 3. December Visitors Center Traffic The center experienced a 16% decrease in Visitors Center traffic over December, 2006. We had 3,480 visitors this December, an average of 120 people per day. Last year, we saw an average of 143 people each day,for a total of 4,150. (December is the only month this year where we have seen a decrease in visitor numbers in the same month last year.) 4. December Telephone Calls Visitor Services staff fielded a total of 790 calls this December, as opposed to 828 calls in December, 2006. NOTE: Estimates for visitor traffic and telephone calls were used December 18 - 31, in order to complete this report by the deadline. 5. Volunteer Ambassadors Now that our year is coming to a close, it is important to acknowledge the many hours of service provided to the town by our Ambassador volunteers at the Visitors Center. They worked over 5,951 hours, which is equivalent to nearly three full- time staff. Over the course of the year, there were 74 Ambassadors who contributed to this total. 6. Ambassador Officers for 2008 The Ambassadors have held their election for new officers for the coming year, and the following individuals will serve in 2008/2009: Outgoing Officers (2006 & 2007): President: Forrest McVicar Sue Spooner Vice-President: Bruce Piggott Forrest McVicar Secretary: Ginny Thompson Ginny Thompson Treasurer: Dee Burns Bee Ross Scheduler: Pete Sumey Ike Eisenlauer Training: Judith Praul Judith Praul 7. Section R108 of the 2003 IRC specifies the requirements for calculating and assessing building permit fees. Mr. and Mrs. Brown of 650 Birch Ave., disagree with staff's interpretation and application of the fee calculation and assessment process. While issues relating to staffs interpretations of the codes are matters for the Board of Appeals, local amendment specifies the Community Development Committee shall provide direction for determining project valuations. Because the adopted permit fee schedule is based on the valuation of a project, permit fees are directly related to project valuations. Budget: Budgetary impact will be directly related to direction provided to staff by the Community Development Committee. Action: Staff is requesting the Community Development Committee review the current process of calculating project valuations and assessing building permits fees; and, provide direction for the upcoming 2006 codes adoption process, as it relates to building permit fees.
