Book is expected to be on the press starting 11/28 with planned delivery to our fulfillment house on 12/23/05. We will have a small quantity on-hand at the Visitors Center shortly after that until we relocate in the new Visitors Center. 2. General Planner requests for mailed copies are down 4.2% compared to a five year average. This is an improvement over last month. Individual planner downloads totaled 109,082, a remarkable number representing considerable information distribution! 3. Magazine advertising generated planner requests are down year-to-date by 1.72%. 4. Internet advertising: Our Google Ad-Words campaign generated over 78,000 click throughs to our CVB website. This campaign has been reduced to Thursdays-Sundays to assist weekend visitation but also to reduce expenditures. Our Denver Newspaper Agency on-line event promotion continued to generate an extremely high level of click-through rates in September and through October 9th (Surprise Sale) as it had the previous 4 months. Both of these programs will be the basis of our expanded 2006 Internet promotion. 5. Search Engine Ranking continues at # 7 on Google, # 7 on MSN, # 8 on AOL Search, # 13 on Yahoo - these 4 search engines account for 98.27% of our search engine referrals. The rankings above are "natural" rankings as opposed to "ad word" rankings that we get as sponsored links. 6. 2006 Media Plan, according to the Ad Committee,,will include new "calendar" ads on many Sundays in the News and Post as well as a major shift of funds to a greater Internet presence with Ad Words and similar programs on Google, MSN, AOL, Yahoo, etc. ACTION ITEM: None BACKGROUND: N/A BUDGET/COST: N/A RECOMMENDATION: N/A , Getaways By Kelly Bastone Local Haunts Don't believe in ghosts? You might after a visit to some of Colorado's most-storied hotels. THERE ARE SOME THINGS you've just got to see to believe, and ghosts fall into that category. October Traffic at the Visitors Center The total number of visitors who came through the center in October was 9006, an average of 291 people per day. 2. October Telephone Counts In October, the Visitors Center received a total of 1112 calls, an average of 36 calls per day. (This has been our slowest telephone call month, next to January.) (Please Note: This report had to be completed prior to the end of the month, so the final number of visitors and telephone calls includes an estimate for 1081). 3. CVB Services The total amount sold for CVB Services remains close to $90,000. CVB services include website listings, brochure rack space, referrals and leads. This is 90% of our budget target of $100,000. We continue to collect on balances that are due; currently, the total remaining to collect stands at $2,220. 4. Off-Season Hours The Visitors Center is now open the following hours: 9 AM - 5 PM, Monday - Saturday; 10 AM - 4 PM on Sunday. Also, on October 8, our volunteer Ambassadors began assisting visitors at the counter on the weekends only, rather than every day. 5. Advertising/Print/Media: A Snow & Ice press release was sent out prior to the conference and was published by Estes Park news. The follow-up press release with a variety of photos was sent after the conference and was printed in both papers, as well as in the Colorado Public Works Journal. Fruita State Welcome Center Study Tour: The Estes Park CVB hosted an overnight study tour for the Welcome Center Ambassadors from Fruita, which is the state' s busiest center. Local businesses generously donated meals, lodging, tour guides, gifts and entertainment for the group October 11 & 12th. I escorted them on their motorcoach for the two days. We toured Estes Park, RMNP, the Stanley Hotel and more. 20 Ambassadors participated in the program and press releases ran with photos in both papers. The Mayor's office and the Conference Center donated gift items so each Fruita Ambassador was able to depart with a gift bag from Estes Park. Businesses that participated: Rams Horn Village Resort, The Otherside Restaurant, Eagle' s Nest Gallery, The Inn at Estes Park, Common Scents, Mad Moose, Shakes Alive, Estes Park Shuttle, Marys Lake Lodge, Rocky Mountain National Park, Bighorn Mountain Lodge, Comfort Inn, Olympus Lodge, Appenzell Inn, Black Canyon Inn, the Estes Park Ambassadors and the Estes Park Conference Center. Estes Park Film Commission: We've had numerous inquiries in October for filming opportunities in Estes Park for the future. Approval of the one-time gift of a 15-passenger van from Estes Park Senior Citizens Center, Inc. to the Town of Estes Park. b. Permission to go out to formal bid to purchase the van. BACKGROUND: The Board of Directors of the Estes Park Senior Center intends to purchase a 15-passenger handicapped- accessible van and donate it as a one-time gift to the Town of Estes Park. The vehicle is intended for primary use by the Estes Park Senior Center and will be available to other Town departments as well. Currently, the Center offers educational and recreational day trips for seniors by renting a family-style van from the Recreation District. This van is showing its age and clients are less able to board this vehicle safely and comfortably as time goes on. The vehicle is not handicapped-equipped. The Recreation District recently revised its policy for access to this vehicle and there are limitations on its use. Town staff and consultants (Lori Mitchell, Dave Mahany, Betty Kilsdonk, Debbie Parrack, Randy Repola, Greg White and Connie Platt of CIRSA) and members of the Senior Center Board van committee conducted and reviewed extensive research over the last two years to document the multiple transportation options, the need for a vehicle, operating policies and procedures, revenue and fundraising/financing plans and operating expenses as well as the vehicle style and amenities desired. Insurance and liability, depreciation and maintenance, staffing and training have also been researched. Data has been kept on trip revenues and operating expenses and on the numbers of seniors using the service. A survey was conducted to determine the desirability of the project. BUDGET/COST: a. The van will cost $60,000 to $70,000. b. The Senior Center Board is prepared with either a 100% cash payment, or a 50% cash match contingent on a 50% cash grant from a private foundation. Application is in process with this foundation. c. A 10-year depreciation/replacement account and operating/maintenance costs will be funded by passenger fees. d. Insurance costs will be covered by the Town under CIRSA (approximately $125 yearly). RECOMMENDATIONS: a. Staff recommends approval of the-one time gift of the van. b. Staff recommends pursuit of formal bids to purchase the van. Oral History Project We are currently in the middle of an oral history project, supported by the Mayor's contingency fund. The project's focus is on the local governmental institutions that created public policy, and downtown business development. With Nick Molle, we will be filming thirteen long-time residents during November and December. Early next year we will also be digitizing 200 hours of existing oral history tape from the 1970s and 1980s. Historical exhibits, television and radio programs, school projects, and works of historical scholarship such as books and articles, are some anticipated uses for the project results. 3. Database Conversion Project We are nearing the end of the federal grant-funded project to convert our paper catalog collections worksheets to a database. Beginning next year, researchers will be able to perform a complete search of the Museum's catalogued collections by querying the database. In addition, staff will be better able to match researchers with potentially useful information and will be able to better care for the collections objects. Before the project began, the database contained 10,500 artifact records. As of October 1, 2005, the total number of object records currently in the database is 19,592. The next part of the project is publicizing the resource via workshops, etc. Estes Park Museum September 2005 EPM Attendance EPM Programs September gallery 9-17 Riverside Dance 250 attendance 853 9-22 Outhouses Lecture 125 Programs (2) 375 Meetings/Other Gallery tou rs (1) 15 9-7 Friends Bd Committee 6 Group meetings/Other (9) 173 9-12 to 9-16 Emporia State Total = 1416 students 20 YTD 2005 = 12,410 9-19 Friends Bd Committee YTD 2004 = 6136* 9-23 Wedding dinner 70 YTD 2003 = 8875 9-26 Friends Bd Committee 9-28 TOEP/Economic 30 *EPM reopened 7.3.04 after remodel 9-29 Friends Board 20 9-29 TOEP/Economic 15 1416 668 653 653 558 - €04 '' 43): ~-1 * FY PY FY FY '01 '02 .03 '04 '05 September EPM attendance by year TOWN OF ESTES PARK Office Memorandum To: Community Development Committee-Trustees Doylen, Levine, Pinkham From: Bob Joseph and Will Birchfield Date: October 28,2005 Re: Impacts of Improvements to Estes Park Medical Center and Recommendations REPORT: I Impacts to Department of Building Safety A.
