The Trustees approved the event, but asked the committee to poll the area merchants concerning the location, closing of the street and the parking lot. Linda Hinze - Special Events Director and Dick Brown - representing the local auto club and the organizing committee contacted the following merchants: -- Dairy Queen - owner was thrilled and very supportive. - Big Red Shop - owner was very receptive - appreciated an event in their location. - Mini Mart - owner thought it was a good idea. - Subway - manager thought it was great, would relayto owner and have them call if there were any concerns. Have not heard from him. - Awesome Shirts - manager said she thought it was a great idea. - Silver & Gold Store - owner not in - phoned and left message - no response - Heirloom Jewelry - owner thinks the idea of the show is neat. However, it should be in a location away from downtown where the cars can be shown off properly. He is not in favor of closing streets. During the past Memorial Weekend show in Bond Park on Saturday and Monday he did very little business and he did close on Sunday, He will probably close during the Labor Day weekend show also, as it is not worth him being open. - Common Scents - owner is OK with it. Glad it is off a major weekend and on a weekday. Costs: Potential costs for repair to sod and irrigation system in Bond Park. Recommendation: Police Department, Lowell Richardson - is OK with blocking off Park Lane, however feels the Municipal Lot is a better location. Special Events Department- This is a slower weekend and the beginning of our Fall shoulder season. We think either the proposed areas or the Municipal Building/Library parking lot are the best. Parks Department, Dan Speedlin - Wants Trustees to recognize that there will undoubtedly be some cost for sod/irrigation repairs in Bond Park. If approved they would like to make the decision at the Bond Park location for the entry/exit and limit cars to certain areas. Strongly suggests another venue. , TOWN of ESTES PARK Inter-Office Memorandum DATE: June 6,2002 TO: Community Development Committee FROM: Tom Pickerinl~1 /1--~ SUBJECT: Creation of Film Commission Office Background: The office of the Colorado Film Commission is a resource used by the motion picture industry to facilitate filming in Colorado.
