They removed loose daubing and replaced it with new, installed a wood bin where one had formerly been, on the north exterior wall, caulked the windows, and repainted the doors and trim to a historically appropriate color, based on paint analysis. Some daubing and painting work, as well as screen and window trim replacement, will be completed this month by Jim and the museum's new assistant curator, Barb Boyer. Collections Computerization Update A total of 1105 objects have been entered into the Museum's collections computer. This means data about the object is both easily retrievable and sortable, and easily shared with other institutions. Explore his role in preserving America's natural landscape and discover the legacies of his life and work. Exhibit sponsored in part by Colorado Mountain School, Mary and Bob Pratti, and Estes Park Mountain Shop. Wish You Were Here: A Postcard Exhibit February 18, 2000 - December 31,2000 (Joint Reception with the Art Center) Main Building Out of scrapbooks and top drawers come a wealth of memory and nostalgia, in the form of postcards. The changing faces of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park can be traced from generation to generation in the colorful, photographic, playful, and majestic scenes that peer out from the fronts of aging postcards. Clatworthy May 12, 2000 - November 26, 2000 (Joint Reception with the Art Center) Park Service Building Fred Payne Clatworthy settled in Estes Park in 1905, having left Chicago and his career as a lawyer behind him. After exploring the west by bicycle with camera in hand, he decided to make the Rocky Mountains his home and photography his business. An accomplished black and white photographer, Clatworthy has perhaps gained most acclaim for his color work with autochrome plates. Clatworthy excelled at this early color photographic process, honing his talents on assignment for National Geographic. Ni'iihi': In a Good Way, Photographs ofthe Wind River Arapaho 1976-1999 December 16, 2000 - February 11,2001 Park Service Building Ni'iihi' is a phrase in the Arapaho language that means living "in a good way." While participating as dynamic members of Wyoming communities, Northern Arapaho people continue to follow cultural values and traditions which enable them to live in a good way. This exhibition of photographs by Sara Wiles provides insight into such values and traditions which guide contemporary Arapaho life. This grant was written to seek funding for one additional day of transit service for Estes Valley for the remainder of 1999. Steve had estimated the cost of such service to be $5440. We are very pleased to announce recent notification that the grant was approved, in the full amount requested, by the Paratransit Endowment Fund of the Fort Collins Community Foundation. These funds have been received by Senior Center, Inc. and will be immediately transferred to Special Transit in order to begin service as soon as possible. Steve estimates that additional service will begin on Monday, September 27. MEALS July meats served totaled 1222 (795 congregate and 427meals or wheels.) August meals served totaled 119B (851 congregate and 347 meals on wheels.) Non-eligible meals (served to those under age 60) totaled 21 for July and 34 for August. As announced previously, the suggested donation for eligible meals (for those age 60 or over) increased July 1 from $3.00 to $3.50: and the price of non- eligible meals (for those u,der age 60) increased to $4.00. Since no subsidy is received for non-eligible meals, it is very likely that the price of these meals will increase again on January 1, 2000. KREATIVE KIDS The last in a series of four intergenerational luncheons with Kreative Kids and Seniors was in August. These were very special and fun times at the SC with Carrie from the Library conducting 'getting-to-1<now-yoit activities throughout lunch. Total fulds raised = $1208.51. The net proceeds of the buffet: = $780.00, the Bake Sale =$212.51, and Parking - $216.00. As usual, it all happened with the magic of volunteers! SPECIAL EVENTS This Friday, September 24, the Senior Center will host two very special activities. 'Bye-Bye Birdie Barbecue» will be held at noon as an end-of-season farewell to our snowbirds. This will also be a fundraiser for the Seniors; therefore for a choice of meats and all the picnic trimmings, the cost is $7.00 per person. Donna and Bob Collins, summer residents who have provided wonderful music for several other events, will again play throughout the bart»cue. A Ribbon Cutting/Groundbreaking Ceremony for the Heritage Garden to be constructed adjacent to the Senior Center will follow the barbecue at 1:30 p. m. Friday. The program includes the Estes Park Ambassadors, American Legion, and the Highlands Brass Quintet. Speakers will include Mayor Robert Dekker, Senior Board President Richard Lange, Construction Superintendent Don Tebow, and Nickie Marshall, daughter of Bill Marshall. The Heritage Garden is designed with bricks embossed with names. These bricks were sold, and continue to be sold, as a fund raising project by the Seniors. Funds donated to the Senior Center in the memory of Bill Marshall are being used to purchase a gazebo to be placed in the center of the Garden. The Seniors are raising all the funds necessary for construction of the Heritage Garden. ACTIVITIES The Seniors continue to be busy with on-going activities. In addition, recent programs following lunch have provided information regarding medical issues, the Library expansion, and painting demonstrations. Boulder Dinner Theatre continues to be a favorite social outing. We continue to host other Senior Center visitors, the most recent being the Berthoud Seniors. 26-2 SPECIAL EVENTS EVALUATION 1999 ESTES PARK HUNTER-JUMPER SHOW DATE: July 24 thru August 8 NO. Celebrate Estes is a joint operation of the Town of Estes Park Special Events Department, Estes Park Chamber Resort Association and downtown merchants. This is the third year for this event. We are asking to close Elkhorn Avenue between Riverside Drive and Moraine Ave. and Moraine Ave. to Spruce Street. The Moraine Ave/Big Horn intersection would be left open for traffic. This is same closure we used in 1998. Purpose of the closure is to provide a mall-like atmosphere by decorating the streets with trees allowing pedestrians to walk where they may. Street entertainers, Santa's Village, pony rides, etc. will be on the streets. Times: Closure at 9 am Saturday, December 11 through 6 pm Sunday, December 12. Additional signage would be in place to direct traffic down Cleave Street to the West end of Elkhorn Ave. and at Riverside Drive to direct traffic around to Moraine Ave and Hwy 36. We have reduced this event to one weekend only for 1999. Recommendation: Recommend the above stated closure of Elkhorn Ave. for December 11 & 12, 1999 be granted. 36-1 ROOFTOP RODEO COMMITTEE 1999/2000 MEMBERSHIP NAME WORK HOME ADDRESS Adams, Jo - Pres. 6-6601 6-3463 PO Box 509 Brown, Mitch - V.P. 6-3749 6-4819 PO Box 1272 Buckert, Jacquie 6-5072 249 Old Man Mountain Carra de Salero, Trudy 577-1830 PO Box 195 Cunningham, Carol 6-8310 6-0223 PO Box 4166 Cunningham, Don 6-8310 6-0223 PO Box 4166 Dill, Rick 6-6898 6-8477 1260 Manford Ave Erickson, Roy 747-2144 Box 186, Allenspark, 80510 Frazier, Shawn 577-9321 PO Box 4491 Holgersen, Debbie - Sec. 6-3430 6-0628 2351 Dry Gulch Road Jenista, Chief 577-9330 PO Box 360 Kitchen, Joyce 577-0638 1901 Fish Creek Rd LPR McPhee, Dave 6-8195 6-3869 PO Box 4271 McPhee, Judy 6-5331 6-3869 PO Box 4271 Murray, Sean 6-8085 . The line is quite old, as it was installed when the subdivision was first developed over 50 years ago. The District would like to replace the line to improve the service, however the problem is more complicated than that. Included with this letter is a map that shows the existing location ofthe line. As you can see, the location posses more problems than solutions. Sections ofthe sewer main extend under resi- dences, while the remaining sections are all very close to the existing houses. Many large trees, sheds and decks are in the immediate proximity ofline, making the replacement nearly impossible. Also, the current location of sewer main is very close to the water line serving these properties. The District would like to move the line into an area shown on the map. This would enable us to extend the line into an area away from the houses and the numerous other obstacles. We would extend new sewer service lines to all ofthe residences to insure a long-term solution to the prob- lem. The District will be speaking to the affected residences this week to explain the problem and work out an acceptable location for the line as it runs through their property. If in the future the new location of the line through the fairgrounds should require relocation, the District will do so at its expense. Thank you very much and if you have any questions, please feel free to call me at my office.
