Community Development Committee Advertising Program Report October 22, 1998 1. Requests for Information A. Visitors Guide requests, as of September 30, were at 51,932 compared to 56,933 this time last year. Decline of 8.78%. Graph attached. B. Incoming 800 Calls, as of September 30, were at 55,515 compared to 56,296 this time last year. This is a difference of 1.4%. Graph attached. 2. Virtual Visitors Guide A. E-mailed requests for a Visitors Guide have reached 4,751 as of the end of September. B. New measure of access to the Virtual Visitors Guide - "Unique Visits" rather than "Home Page Hits" 3. Research Results A. Response level to our re-survey of Fall, 1997 advertising respondents has been extremely high providing us with new, highly accurate, information about our fall advertising respondent. B. This study should be complete in two months. 4. Marketing Advisory Council A. Three, 2-hour, presentations of the new advertising logo and design criteria for the year 2000 Vacation Planner are being held today at 8 a.m., 1 p.m., and 6 p.m. at the Holiday Inn. B. The new logo will be introduced as part of our advertising message in various media over the next three months. I MEMORANDUM To: Honorable Mayor Dekker and Board of Trustees From: Betty Kilsdonk Date: October 22, 1998 Subject: Cobb-Macdonald Cabin Restoration Request to Accept Bid Background: At the August 27, 1998 Community Development Committee Meeting, the Museum received permission to bid this project. Two bids were received: Front Range Log Homes, Inc. $4,420.00 M. J. Aldrich Builders $6,687.00 Budget/Cost: This project was originally budgeted at $9,500. We plan to complete it for $7,500, including the Front Range Log Homes bid of $4,420, a consultant at $1,000, and additional materials/labor for not more than $2,080. Recommendation: (write as a motion) To accept the bid of $4,420.00 from Front Range Log Homes, Inc. to restore the Cobb-Macdonald Cabin using budgeted funds. 49/D 4 A e / 4/ Community Development Committee Museum Monthly Report October 22, 1998 1998 Exhibits The Museum will open Collectors' Choice, a new exhibit in the Park Headquarters building, on November 20. Collectors' Choice will showcase the wacky, spectacular and unusual collections of local residents. Among the items on display will be antique valentines, potholders from around the world, invalid feeders, advertising premiums, outmoded clothes washing and drying equipment, tobacco tins, matchbooks, autographs from famous people, and glassware. The last day for both the Ranches and Rodeos and Horsin' Around: Artwork from the Lazy Easel Children's Workshop exhibits isNovember 1. This will be a free day. 1999 Exhibits •1899: Preparing for a New Century The everyday lives and real-life concerns of local residents 100 years ago •Enos Mills and the American Conservation Movement Traces the development of conservation ideals and their impact on the National Park and our community •Power! The Story of the Fall River Hydroelectric Plant An electrifying look at the development and impact of the hydro plant and current Town plans to restore it as an interpretive center •Herb Mignery Restrospective A selection of work from the renowned bronze sculptor andfornier Estes Park resident Halloween Event Celeste Lasky, author of a book on local ghost stories, will share them on Halloween at 1:00 PM at the Museum. The event is free with regular admission. Winter Schedule The Museum moves to its winter schedule beginning November 1. Until May 1, the Museum will be open Fridays-Saturdays from 10 to 5, and Sundays from-1 te 5, with office hours during the week. The annual holiday open house will take place December 12 & 13. The Museum will be open daily from December 12 through the 23rd. Conservation Project Support Grant Update Over the past several months, staff and volunteers have condition-reported the artifacts in the main museum storage area, We are now ready to deinstall the objects, which will take place from November to March. New storage furniture will be put in place, and the entryway will be upgraded. Community Development Committee Senior Center Monthly Report October 22, 1998 Operations The Senior Center served 843 congregate meals and 482 home-delivered meals during the month of September. Ofthe congregate meals, 819 were subsidized with Office on Aging funding and 24 were categorized as non-eligible (generally defined as under age 60). A total of 1325 meals were served, for an average of 63 meals per day. The Center was closed Labor Day. Seventy people were in attendance. The Estes Park Senior Center, Inc., which is the Center's Advisory and Friends Board, recently received two grants. A $10,000 grant from the Gates Foundation was designated by the Foundation for landscaping, A $25,000 grant from the Johnson Foundation will be used to purchase furnishings. New dining room chairs, purchased with grant funds, were delivered October 7 and installed with help from the Parks and Streets departments. Among the many groups regularly using the Senior Center are the Quilt Guild, GED classes, card players, chess players, pool players, the Rock Club, AARP, and the Red Cross, just to name a few. We are working with the Senior Center Board on w~iless to the Center during the fall and winter, including inviti~Senior Centers to hav-~)lunch and holding Bronco parties. #---- 7
