Requests for Visitors Guides - as ofNovember 30, 1997 A. Overall requests for guides essentially even with the same period 1996 (67,481 for this year compared to 67,366 for 1996). B. Graph attached. C. Pure magazine advertising responses continue at 21% ahead ofthe same period 1996 (37,968 for this year compared to 31,388 for 1996). 2.800 line calls - as ofNovember 30, 1997 A. Including an estimated 2,900 calls for the 8/5-8/14 period, 800 line calls appear to be down 8% compared to the same period last year ( 67,038 for this year compared to 67,366 for 1996). B. Graph attached (w/0 missing counts). 3. Virtual Visitors Guide - as of 12/31/97 A. The main page of the VVG has been accessed 79,678 times during 1997. B. Ofthose who accessed the main page, 3.5% (2,799) requested a hard copy via e-mail. and or commented on the quality of the VVG. 4. Current Work in Progress: 5 A. February Insert in production - will drop 2/8/9?'to highlight Valentine's Day/President's Day weekend, and National Trails day the following weekend. B. Conversion Study - RRC has completed the second mailing of surveys, completed the compilation of the data from the first set of surveys. C. First Ouarter television schedule on Channel 4 will start January 14~h and run through March 22nd D. Denver newspaper schedule in the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News starts this Friday, 1/9/98. Tracks in Time exhibit renovation, a complete redesign of the permanent gallery space, with contributions of $34,000 and almost 500 hours ofvolunteer labor 2. Conservation Project Support grant ($38,104) awarded by the Institute ofMuseum and Library Services to upgrade the collections storage area over the next two years 3. History Camp, sixth year, in partnership with MacGregor Ranch and supported by a two-year gralit award ($8200) from the King Foundation 4. The Prints of Lyman Byxbe, 19 framed prints on loan from Minnesota Byxbe expert Robert Crump, who came to Estes Park on November 21 to talk with residents about their Byxbes and present a slide show on Byxbe's life and work 5. Painting and refurbishing of the Rocky Mountain National Park Headquarters uilding by volunteers, led by Friends Board member Larry Carpenter. This project was at the top ofthe Museum's Needs Prioritization list, developed by the Advisory and Friends Boards 6. American Association for State and Local History/Colorado-Wyoming Association of Museums preconference tour on October 1 7. Aller-Lingle Architects feasibility study, analyzing current and future space needs (a match to the Conservation Project Support grant) 8. Four Women Homesteaders exhibit and program by Enda Mills Kiley during March, Women' s History Month 9. Imaging the West: Photographs of John Fielder show and booksigning, September 23 10. Bear, trout and waterfall benches installed May 2, sponsored by the Friends Upcoming Event January 30 and 31. "Byx Days" Two free days marking the opening of an exhibit in the main gallery of locally-owned Byxbes. "The Prints ofLyman Byxbe" continues in the National Park Service Headquarters Building.
