Crossroads Ministry believes this is part of Christian witness; therefore, Crossroads Ministry will enlist volunteers to participate in the daily work of the ministry and seek support from individuals, groups, and organizations to accomplish the mission. Crossroads Ministry of Estes Park, Incorporated, is one of the major community organizations, representing many of the Churches of the Estes Valley in providing specific emergency services and needs. IMPLEMENTATION OF MISSION STATEMENT For persons with temporary needs, Crossroads Ministry is a Christian emergency assistance agency, which serves as a resource and information referral point, as it sustains persons and/or families during an interim period, in an accepting, non- threatening or judgmental setting. On site, Crossroads Ministry will make an assessment of the situation and needs of a person or family in a compassionate and concerned manner. The assessment may include: 1. A plan for personal action; 2. Referrals to other resources in the community; In addition, Crossroads Ministry may use available resources or funds to issue vouchers (letters of credit) for local business and professional people to provide: 1. Food; 2. Emergency dental, medical and prescription medicine assistance; 3. Partial (or limited) assistance with rent and/or utilities; 4. Emergency housing; 5. Showers and laundromat services; 6. Assistance with transportation (gasoline or bus/taxi fare); 7. Other emergency needs as approved by members of The Advisory Committee. Adopted by action of The Board of Directors, Crossroads Ministry of Estes Park, Incorporated, February 21, 1996. CROSSROADS MINISTRY OF ESTES PARK, INC. 1184-A Graves Avenue P.O. Box 1287 Estes Park, CO 8051 7 Dear Gary and Committee Members, i Thank you for your request for more information concerning funding, for Crossroads Ministry of Estes Park, Inc. for your January meeting. An allocation of $10,000 (or more if you feel so moved) would and could be used in many areas such as: --At the end of 1995, Crossroads had fed 2,211 individuals. Comparatively, at the end of November 1996, Crossroads had fed 3,789 individuals. A very significant increase, as you can see. . --At the end of 1995, Crossroads had assisted with housing for 98 families. Comparatively, at the end of November 1996, Crossroads had assisted with housing for 92 families. No significant increase exists due to limited funding that allows Crossroads to assist families with $150 per family, one time only. We have had many, many more requests for housing assistance that we are unable to fulfill. KARHOF funds of $3,500 in 1996 helped tremendously; however, these are yearly grant monies that are not guaranteed annually. FEMA only allocated $1,370 for housing in 1996 and 1997. --At the end of 1995, Crossroads had assisted with medicines and medically-related emergencies for 211 individuals. Comparatively, at the end of November 1996, Crossroads had assisted 250 persons with emergency medical concerns. This is a very expensive area which our limited funding impacts very quickly. However, if an adult or child isn't healthy, as you well know, the whole family is affected very quickly in many ways. --At the end of 1995, Crossroads had served 2,784 individuals. Comparatively, at the end of November 1996, Crossroads had served 5,523 individuals. As Executive Director and the only paid staff, I am currently paid approximately $1 5,000 annually for 30 hours of work each week. This 30 hours per week reflects no increase of staffing for many years even though the number of persons served has almost doubled just in this past year! Staff increase is needed to continue to meet the basic human needs of persons coming to Crossroads. We are very proud of our 712 volunteers who truly make Crossroads work. This reflects a 150 person increase since last year. 2,078 hours have been volunteered this year to assist our friends and neighbors. Crossroads will maintain it's current budget of $54,600; however, additional allocated funds from the Town would be used in any or all of the areas listed above, as you request, to help those in need. We hope you will find it in your hearts to help us help you. Thank you for your time and consideration for our request. We hope to hear positively from you soon. And have a happy and blessed 1997! \« 90 80/1 111*4*~9 ':7)'. '111 & Imis E. Community Development Committee Museum Monthly Report Thursday, January 2,1997 1. Exhibit Renovation Update Overall thematic statement and area outlines: approved by the Advisory Board in November. Text dra#s: nearing completion. Panels: in storage in Barn W. Corporate and local gifts: The Hewlett-Packard Company has awarded a scanner to the Friends ofthe Museum. We plan to use it for a new Estes Park data base of family photos and genealogical information which would be in the new exhibit gallery. Other uses we anticipate are updating our home page, making historic photographs available to the public on disk, and improving our newsletter and outreach materials. Bob Hope's TV Video and Stereo has donated a video monitor and speakers. We hope to place the monitor in the orientation area at the front of the museum, where visitors could view a short introductory video on the museum and Estes Park history. 2. Benches Last summer, we invited artists from around the state to design benches for us along historical or natural themes of our area. We had 13 creative entries. A committee ofAdvisory Board members, Sue Doylen, Dan Speedlin, and museum staff chose three fun and unusual designs which are scheduled for installation by May 2, the date of our renovation grand opening. The benches are being funded by the Friends of the Museum. 3. Program One ofthe key concepts to emerge from our marketing brainstorming session last spring was to make more effort to reach children and families. Our first program in 1997 will be storytelling by Katy Little. It will be held Saturday, January 25 in the Estes Park Public Library's Hondius Room, from 1 to 2 p.m. Admission to this family-oriented program is free. 44 Museum Attendance 1996 YTD 11,326 3500 ' 3000 250C - 2000 - 1500 1000 I. + ;r.
