(Thousands) . December 7, 1995 MEMORANDUM TO: Community Development Committee FROM: Betty Kilsdonk, Museum Director Monthly Report 1. New Exhibit Winter Legacy, an exhibit on the Hidden Valley ski area and other skiing activities, opened November 17 with a free public reception which attracted 120-150 people. This successful opening is partly the result of an effort to coordinate with the Art Center, which had an opening the same night. Both the Art Center and the Museum hope to develop this partnership more fully in the future. The Winter Legacy exhibit will be open through April 8. 2. Programs The Museum will hold its annual Christmas free open house on Saturday, December 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, December 10, from 1 to 5 p.m. Refreshments will be served and the Estes Valley Model Railroaders will be on hand to operate a model train for visitors' enjoyment. The Museum is taking reservations for a Saturday, December 16, bus trip to the Colorado History Museum in Denver to tour their new 1950s exhibit. The cost is $14.50 or 13.50 for seniors. Over 100 people attended a November 30 program at which Ted Mathews showed a super-8 film he'd made of Hidden Valley in the 1950s, and Bob Bradley spoke on the history of the area. That morning, curator John Carr, dressed as Abner Sprague, spoke to elementary school students during their Good Citizen Award breakfast. 3. Statistics Attached. The Museum's October attendance was its best in recent years with over 1000 people. Attendance in November (the Museum was open November 17-19, and November 24-26) was 248 visitors. 4. Parking and weather are the main components for the crowd. COMMENTS: Weather was warm, but very windy. We had alot of damage to the floats, however, all but one float traveled the parade route. We initiated several new ideas for the day and they worked very well: 1) new event detour signs 2) use of Eagle Rock students and Fire Department for crowd control and trash pickup 3) new ending of parade route for our floats to line-up on Hwy 34 and caravan back to fairgrounds (much safer and faster). Many merchants indicated that this was the best year for sales yet. 3.
