COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE Advertising Report 10/14/93 I. Requests for Information A. Year-to-date packet requests, as of September 30, = 66,201, down 5.6% from the same period last year. B. Year-to-date 800# telephone calls as of August 31, = 49,102, down 4.1% from the same period last year. 2. Conversion Study A. 4,258 surveys have been mailed to respondents from the first advertising flight which ran in March and April, 1993. Survey returns, as of Monday 10/11, totalled 836, and are still coming in at a strong rate. We expect to exceed 900 returns for a ratio of more than 20%. This is considered a very good level of response by RRC. B. Survey questionnaires will be mailed to a sample of 1,200 respondents from the August and September advertising flight in the first week of November. 3. Current Projects A. Completed print advertising, two posters, and a 1-week radio flight to support the Surprise Sale and October Gold promotions. B. Currently working on November insert which will support the Christmas parade and holiday shopping. C. Beginning the development of the 1994 magazine ads, and 1994 "Open All Year" rotating newspaper ads. ' 1 , J I October 12, 1993 MEMORANDUM TO: Community Development Committee FROM: Steve Stamey, Community Development Director /<fu, SUBJECT: Transportation Advisory Group - Recommendation The Transportation Advisory Group met again on September 15, 1993 and has made the following recommendations with regard to 1994 transportation service: 1. Not pursue acquisition of two buses with the Town of Avon. This is based on budget constraints, operating costs, and suitability with the community. 2. Look at options to purchase a phased out school bus to be used for employee transportation. 3. Survey the business/employer community to determine appropriate employee transportation schedules/rates. 4. Continue trolley system. Operate with more schedule consistency and distribute information on schedule changes. 5. Look at variations in ridership pass options (e.g. season, weekly). 6. Continue private participation in trolley through purchase of passes. SLS:cj MUSEUM REPORI (verbal) MEMORANDUM TO: Community Development Committee FROM: Betty Kilsdonk, Acting Museum Director DATE: 14 October 1993 RE: Museum Report 1. Statistics: Attached. As of September 30, the Museum had received 10,083 visitors, up 47.6% over 1992. 2.~-Staffing: Kilsdonk became acting director as of 30 September. The directorship was < nationally advertised and clicited over 100 applications. Following a work review, a \~ town/advisory board committee will promote Kilsdonk or turn to the other applicants. Lynda Vogel has been hired under contract to work part-time until the end of <) 1993, 12 hours per week in September and up to 30 hours per week from October- ~ December. Her duties include the Christmas exhibit and the 1994 monthly programs < series. Melissa Roberts, a high school work study, works 12-15 hours per week. 3. Exhibits: Climbl 77:e Inngs Peak Legacy closes October 31. The Museum will close to the public until November 26, when Teddy Bears and Other Stu#ed Toys will open. This is the tenth anniversary of the Museum's community Christmas exhibit program. Lynda has created flyers and a scrapbook to generate interest among service clubs. Loans will be accepted from October 18 through November 5. The exhibit runs to December 31. On April 2, 1994 we will open Paradise Founded, a renovation of the Museum's permanent exhibit galleries. May 27-October 30 we will feature a temporary exhibit called Beads and Feathers: Early Twentieth Century Decorative Women's Dress. Next year's Christmas exhibit will be an encore presentation of the very successful model trains exhibit of 1991. In 1995 we are planning to exhibit historic pieces from the Charlie Eagle Plume collection. 4. Programs: Plans for the 1994 program series are underway. Pending approval by the Advisory Board, they will include the Friends annual picnic at the Power Plant grounds, a program on women's suffrage during Women's History Month in March, programs on women's clothing and on model railroads to coincide with the Museum's exhibits, and a field trip to museums in Ft. Collins. 5. Grant: On October 15 the Museum is submitting a grant to the Institute of Museum Services for approximately $20,000 to pay for cabinets and supplies to rehouse the textiles collection. This upgrade is the next step in a long-range conservation plan developed by the Museum staff and the Advisory Board. 6. The Friends of the Estes Park Area Historical Museum Annual Meeting is this Friday, October 15. The keynote speaker is Eric Paddock, curator of photography at the Colorado Historical Museum, whose topic is the photography of Fred Clatworthy.
