St. Vrain Ave. Estes Park, CO 80517 VAN HORN ENGINEERING AND SURVEYING RE: Log Knee Brace keplacemcnt BelowDeck Building Department: Replacement of an 8" diameter by 8' long (approximate) log knee brace is necessary below a balcony type deck at the Taharaa Mountain Lodge on the north side of the building on the second level of the building (one level above the main level as entered from the south). The existing log is rotted and fell to the ground recently (currently removed from thc structure). The log knee brace should be replaced in kind and connected at the top and bottom with one Y.4" diameter bolt Bolts should he galvanized or stainless steel and should be secured with matching nut and washer. Access to the back side of the bolt for nut/washer installation at the bottom side of the log will need to be gained by removal of exterior siding or drywall on the inside of the building unless a threaded sleeve insert is present and secured within the wall. The replacement log should be stress graded for log construction and may be western red cedar, Douglas fir, or pine.
