The cultural department in our town government is interested in working together to develop an annual festival in Estes Park. We are also connected with communities in other Scandinavian countries, which could help expand you programs over the years. At this time we are thinking small and simple, about 10-15 people. It costs about $ 1000 for each of us to travel to Colorado, but we only expect 2 or 3 professional musicians to get some expenses paid Also I have begun to contact others in the U.S. who might use our group and a'dd.some money to our treasury. At this time I just want to let you know that we will be coming, then I will write details later. We are in the middle of some big projects here, but we are planning a meeting about the trip with some officials as well as musicians, etc. Could we get an official letter from the town of Estes Park, of the Cultural Arts Council somehow letting our town know directly of the intent/wish to work together to develop this festival? Send or fax to Gunnar Dagestad, cultural secretary, VOSS KULTURKONTOR, 5701 VOSS FAX 47 56 51 09 64 Voss has had many festivals over the years. The two annual ones now are an international jazz festival and a String Festival, where classical violinists and fiddlers of folkmusic meet. We have also traveled with many cultural programs, this year to Iceland. I enclose a brochure .o-our tour to Decorah, Iowa a few years ago. Sorry it took so long to respond after my return from Colorado. Many things waiting here! Great to see you a l l again - 1 also enclose a list of some crafts people in the Midwest. COMMENTS: This is an excellent event. Organization and creativity is handled very well. Weather was very cold and windy (we lost two floats before leaving the fairgrounds). Received lots of snow the previous Tuesday and Wednesday, hiways were icey and news reports were not favorable for mountain driving. The Denver Post article gave the wrong day (Saturday instead of Friday). From those attending we received great reviews - best ever for quality. Town Expenses were down due to reduction of direct expense of $2,500 and payroll. SPECIAL EVENTS EVALUATION 1993 ICE SCULPTURE DATE: December 22-28 NO. OF YEARS: 2 NO. OF DAYS: Depends on weather MANAGEMENT: Crystal Magic - Joe Switzer, John Offerdahl., Jeff Lemon, and Rich Jereb PURPOSE: Exhibit for the enjoyment of Christmas and New Year's visitors and towns -people. COMMENTS: The weather needs to be cloudy and cold for this event to have any success in longevity. This year for creation time the weather was cold and cloudy. However, Christmas Day was sunny and fairly warm - the sculpture melted just enough to take all definition out of the ice. By December 27th only the main castle structure was recognizable. The artists put in many hours of work, it was too bad that it lasted only about two days in good shape.
