Arbor Day Sandy Burns reported that the Arbor Day schedule has been finalized and asked Barb for assistance in preparing the invitation. Barb reported that the Mayor will issue a proclamation for Arbor Day at the April 26, 2011, Town Board meeting. Sandy said that Sunrise Rotary has ordered and paid for a bench to be installed for the Arbor Day event. Barb reported that she received permission to reprint the Brevity Comic – “I’m bored – how long until Arbor Day?” for the kids’ t-shirts this year. These T-shirts are prizes for the children at the elementary school – one per classroom – awarded to the winners of the Tree Cookie contest. Barb reported that an Arbor Day flyer announcing the event and the contest will be the kids’ Friday folders on April 29, Environmental Stewardship Award This award will be reported on by Scott at the Public Safety, Utilities, and Public Works meeting in April. There have been no nominations received to date so it was discussed that the event needed to be publicized more. Barb was asked to solicit the Beetle Busters for nominations and several people said that Howard Burkhart would be a good candidate; he could receive the award posthumously. The award will be presented with a plaque and a ceremonial tree planting; it was discussed where the tree should be planted. Russ suggested the museum grounds since the Parks Department will be planting there in May for the new Event Garden. Barb will check with the museum to make sure that’s OK. Beetle Symposium Topics for the half-day Beetle Symposium were suggested: • Defensible Space • Biology of the Beetle • Success Stories (beetle mitigation) Barb confirmed the event can be recorded and available as a future resource from the Town’s Peg Central site. The Tree Talks will also be filmed. Respectfully submitted, June 28, 2011, by Barbara Boyer Buck
