TREE BOARD MEETING #23 TOWN OF ESTES PARK February 1, 2000 Members: Jeff Barker Public Works Committee Rep. 2-year term Dan Speedlin Parks Department Rep. 2-year term Tim Rische Parks Department Rep. 4-year term Russ Franklin Parks Department Rep. 4-year term Wendell Amos EVIA Rep. 4-year term Alice Gray EVIA Rep. 4-year term Dick Lang EVIA Rep. 2-year term Present: Dan Speedlin, Russ Franklin, Tim Rische, Jeff Barker, Dick Lang and Alice Gray were in attendance. Guests: Dave Farmer and Brenda Orth Absent: Wendell Amos The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. 1. The Tree Board has received a tree donation for Jean and Joy Gimar. 2. Dave Farmer and Brenda Orth attended our meeting. Dave suggested a tree walk for school children to help them learn the names of the trees in town. Dan gave Dave a plant and tree list indicating which varieties will grow at our altitude in the Estes Valley. Dan will get two more Tree City signs. Dave explained that we did not get the extra growth honor this year. We need to do more for this honor and could receive it in 2001. 3. Goals for 2000: A. Gather info and print a pine beetle information pamphlet for the public. B. Develop a street tree pruning program. C. Compile a street tree inventory D. Put more educational articles in the newspaper E. Will there be a workshop for Tree Boards in the year 2000? 4. Mountain Pine Beetles: We need a person or persons to help Wendell Amos. The Forest Service charges $26 per visit to identify beetle trees. Homeowner presentations are free. The Forest Service will check an area for beetles and do a survey. Meeting adjourned.
