THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING_ ON MONDAY, JULY 19, 1976, AT 7:30 P.M.
The sixteenth meeting of the Commission was called to order by Chairman Dykes at
7:40 p.m. Members present were Fred Steffens, Julian Ebersold, Margaret Houston,
Gene Dykes, Ruth Deffenbaugh, Margaret Houston and Rusky Mikel. Chris Switzer
and Al Mencher were excused.
1. The resignation of Marcia Bruns was accepted with regret. Ruth Deffenbaugh
was appointed to serve out her term as secretary.
2. Minutes of the meeting of June 21, 1976 were approved as printed and circulated.
3. Chairman Dykes reported on plans for judging of winner of Bicentennial prizes
in Rodeo Parade on Friday, July 23. Judges will be Gene Dykes (in front of Estes
Park Bank), Charles Chaffin (in front of the Woodshed) and Chris Switzer (in front
of the Library). Immediately after the Parade the judges wilL...convene and tally
scores. Chairman Dykes will go to the Lazy B and award prizes to winners: Best
Band $20, Best Float $20 and Best Individual $10.
4. The Beard Growing and Pie Contests will be judged during the third week in
September as planned. Moses Swinger is in charge of the Beard Growing and the Jaycettes
of the Pie contest.
5. Chairman Dykes reported on behalf of the Jaycees regarding the 4th of July
Fireworks delay. Technical limitations and coordination problems with the Horse Show
were responsible for the delay. Commission members recommended that the Jaycees
explain the problem to the community by writing a Letter to the Editor in the Trail
Gazette.
6. Historical Marker at Dunraven Cottage - The sign was not set on July 4th as
scheduled. Chairman Dykes will check with Dwight Hamilton or Fred Steffens to see
what can be arranged.
7. "Times and Fast Times" - Marj Wolpert reported that plans are preceding
August 12-13 Pageant which will be held at the High School Auditorium at 8
will be $2.00 for adults, $1.00 for children.
8. "America's Rare Moment" - Chairman Dykes reported that the Estes Park
sponsor that singing group at a free performance in Bond Park on Saturday,
