HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Estes Park Centennial-BiCentennial Commission 1976-03-15OI TOWN N OF ES I- ES ►',' R Estes Park, Colorado 80517 MINUTES OF THE ESTES PARK CENTENNIAL -BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION, 15 March 1976 The twelfth meeting of the Commission was called to order by the Chairman, Al :Wencher, at 7:35 p.m. in Room 100, Municipal Building. Present for roll call: Marcia Bruns, Charles Chaffin, George Cowles, Bob Gaines, Dwight Hamilton, Dick Hillyer, Al Mencher, Bohn Ownby, Ruth Stauffer, Fred Steffens, Marge Wolpert. The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as distributed. I. Al Mencher presented a letter from a maker of Centennial belt buckles, offering to donate to the local Commission 10% of the profit on sales in the Estes Park area. Motion made by Fred Steffens that we accept the offer, requesting a list of merchants who will handle the buckles; motion seconded and passed unanimously. Discussion on the erection of historical site signs took account of cost and durability of different materials. Dwight Hamilton recom- mended an alloy 3/8.inch thick as used in the National Park, costing approximately 5110. Motion to construct two signs --one at Elkhorn Lodge and one at Dunraven Cottage --defeated. Motion to construct one at Dunraven Cottage passed unanimously. Al Mencher appointed as a committee Fred Steffens and Dwight Hamilton to work with Julian Ebersold in determining cost of sign and in consulting with present owner of the Cottage for permission to erect sign. Dick Hillyer proposed as a secondary site, if funds are available, Enos Mills' homestead cabin on Route 7. Motion passed unanimously. III. Dwight Hamilton reported on films of past events and customs in the National Park to be shown Friday evenings in April in the MunicBldg. He confirmed the date of the Deaver Symphony concert as August 8, a free Sunday concert at Hidden Valley. IV. Fred Steffens reported the good news that the Chamber of Commerce was successful in its bid for $5000 of matching money from the State Commission for a multi -media display in the new Visitors Center. V. Ruth Stauffer reported that the request of the Historical Society for a 530,000 grant from the State Commission to match local funds in construction of addition to the Museum was regretfully denied. VI. Dick Hillyer presented a 13-minute film of the Bicentennial events throughout the country along with color slides taken locally of sites of Centennial interest. John Ownby reported on.the reception of this show by local groups. Dick paid tribute to Jona and Brenda Blanchar as entrepreneurs and commmntators. II.
