The fifteenth meeting of the Commission was called to order by Chairman Gene Dykes at 7:33
p.m. in Room 100, Municipal Building. Members present were Esther Arnold, George Cowles,
Julian Ebersold, Al Nencher, Charles Chaffin, Rusty Mikel, Yary Rosener, Chris Switzer,
__Ruth Deffenbaugh, Ruth Stauffer and Marj Wolpert.
1. The resignation of Bill Geurds by letter was accepted with regret.
2. Minutes of the meeting of i•"ay 17, 1976 were approved as circulated.
3. The Chairman reported informally that $281.39 remained in the General Fund, that $15.00
had been received from the High School Student Council, and that $17.00 had been received
from Quota Club. Julian Ebersold moved that a letter of thanks be wrilien to the High School
Student Council. The motion was seconded.
4. Destiny of the Commission was discussed. The Commission could be disbanded at the end
of October 1976, at the end of the calendar year 1976 or at the end of the calendar year
1977. No decision was reached on termination date. However, it was agreed that as an
endorsing body, the Commission has a number of commitments through fall 1976. There will
be an effort to replace resigned Commission members. Villagers with an interest in the
C-BC will be proposed for membership to share responsibility for fall projects.
5. Committee Reports:
a. Sign Committee. Chairman Dykes reported that Fred Steffens had reached a verbal
agreement with the Pedersen family (present owners of the Dunraven Cottage) that if
the historical marker at the site is removed, Pedersen's will reimburse total cost
for the sign. Dedication of the marker is scheduled for July 4, 1976before the Tea.
b. Style Show. Marge Wolpert reported that plans for the show, scheduled for August
12 and 13, 8 p.m. in the High School Auditorium, are now in the active stage. Cost
will be $2 for adults, $1 for children under 12. Wilma Glendenning is chairman of
cast and costuming, Bernice Roby of -dancing, Mary Howarth of programs, _Blanche Gere._
of tickets and Ruth Stauffer of script. Several additional chairman are still to be
named. The program will include music, slide backdrops, dancing as well as styles of
the 19th century and Estes Park history. Descendents of several pioneer families will
participate. A more descriptive title for the show is being discussed.
c. Dunraven Cottage Tea. Ruth Stauffer reported that the Tea. has been_scheduled for
1-4 p.m. on July 4 as a fund raising project for the Museum. The early scheduling
was planned to avoid conflict with the Continental Singers program at 3 p.m.-
d. Rooftop Rodeo Parade. Ruth Stauffer moved that money prizes be given to partici-
pants in the Parade on Friday, July 23. Prizes will be awarded for "Best Band","Best
Float" ($20 each) and "Best Individual" ($10). -A committee headed by Chris Switzer
includes Charles Chaffin and Gene Dykes with Mary Rosener in an advisory capacity and
Fred Steffens as alternate, will formulate guidelines for judging with emphasis on the
effectiveness of a Centennial -Bicentennial Theme.
e. Chamber Building dedication., Gene. Dykes reported that dedication is scheduled
for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 1. Flagpoles will be dedicated at thesametime.
f. Art Show. Ruth Stauffer reported that the Historical Society will sponsor a one -
woman show by Dorothy Carmine Scott at the Municipal Building July 20-August 20. An
opening is scheduled for Sunday, July 18.
g. Continental - Singers. Esther Arnoldreported40 performers will -appear „at.3 p.m.
on July 4 at the High School Auditorium under sponsorship of th e First Baptist Church
Tickets are $2.50 per person.

a. Chris Switzer reported on the "Happy Birthday, America" project conducted
in the primary grades this spring by adults from the community. First, second and
third graders participated in crafts common 100 and 200 years ago in this country
including knitting, stitchery, spinning, weaving, soapcarving, etc. Ways of life
were described for them and songs were learned and sung. As a finale, the entire
grade school celebrated the birthday with a party.
b. Chairman Dykes reminded members of upcoming fall events. The Beard Growing
Contest will conclude with judging this fall, not on Independence Day. A Pie
Baking Contest sponsored by the Jgcettes will be held. Details are being worked
out for F.O. Stanley Day. Mr. Normali of the Stanley is willing to cooperate as
plans develop.
Although a formal resignation has not been received, Chairman Dykes reported that
Secretary Varela Bruns is moving to Lovelnd. Her resignation will be formally
accepted in July. In the meantime, Ruth Deffenbaugh offered to serve as secretary.
8. There being no further business, it was moved and seconded that the meeting adjourn.
