ESTES PARK CENTENNIAL -BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION
The 8th meeting of the Commission came to order on NOVEMBER 17
at 7:38 p.m. in Room 100 of the Municipal Building. Present for Roll
Call: Brenda Blanchar, Charles Chaffin, Ward Crowley, Jim Dunham,
Gene Dykes, Margaret Houston, Al Mencher, John Ownby, Rusty Mikel,
Dick Hillyer, Ruth Stauffer, Chris Switzer; Marge Wolpert,
Gene Dykes, rg�QQrting for the Jaycees and Beta Sigma Phi, requested
$100 for building a7Centennial backdrop for the coming Junior Miss contest,
a set that could be used for other events on our calendar. The motion
was made and passed unanimously that the grant be made immediately from
our Treasury in the hope that it may be r-epayedd later by contributions.

The minutes of the meetinj of October 20 were approved as circulated.
A rdport from Julian Ebersold's Sign Committee was presented by
Al Mencher: Ten AARP members have volunteered to help make the signs
to mark some twenty historic sites. The consensus of the Commission was
for routed signs of redwood, the cost not to exceed $75.
For the setting up of signs of Highways 7, 34, and 36 to designate
Estes Park as a Bicentennial -Centennial City permission has been granted
by the State Highway Commission and funding has been requested from the
Town Board.
The Beard -growing contest is now underway. The Trail -Gazette has
published pictures of the categories --nine styles of beards, three of
mustaches.
Dick Hillyer gave a tentative report on Bicentennial Films. He and
members of his committee felt that most were more suited for schoolchildren
than for adult audiences. He will bring a proposal to the next meeting.
Marge Wolpert reported on plans for a show "Stylesthrough the Age-s"
with slides and music and dance as background for costumes in Estes Park,_
Indians, homesteaders, square-dancing, barbershop quarte'iiey etc. The
place will be the High School auditorium, the dates August 12 and 13.
Charles Chaffin feported that his musical show, "The American Scene
from 1776 to 1976," is tentatively scheduled for the first three meek -ends
in June in the High School auditorium.
Margaret Houston reported on a project to supply a flagpole with
suitable base for the Visitors Center now under construction. Funds will
be raised by contributions in Cents -for -Centennial containers in businesses
and restaurants and by a drive through service clubs in December. The
flag will come from the Capitol Building in Washington, courtesy of Rep-
resentative James Johnson. Motion to ratify this project was passed
unanimouly.
Ruth Stauffer reported a tentative list of 24 Festival Events to
take place in Estes Park in 1976 plus 19 projects, Heritage or Horizon,
ova e-Sik of which were completed in 1975. (See list on next page.)
'Al Mencher suggested as new member Mrs. Marcia Bruns to represent
the Jaycee-ettes. She was unanimously elected.
At the, next meeting Fred Steffens will report on the Colorado
Community program, granting us $750 for ten projects.
