Organizing a Community Workshop
- - -
-Your willingness to assist in the organization of a community
Futures workshop is sincerely appreciated. Because of such
assistance, this project bears great promise.
These organizational guidelines are simply that —guidelines,
not ironclad rules. They have been prepared for use across
the State. Please make the necessary modifications to fit
local circumstances. The guidelines are presented in the
form of a time table so as to serve as a measure of your
progress and a reminder of your remaining needs.
•
The exact format of the workshop day has not yet been finalized.
This information will be sent at a later date, well in advance
of the workshop.
•All communication with the Futures office, whether by phone or mail
mail, should be directed as follows:
Patsy Garlid or Eric Sondermann
Project Coordinator Community Organizer

Every effort should be made to achievemaximum participation -
in community workshops. Involvement should be sought
from traditionally alienated-and/.or uninvolved segments
of the community as well as the community's opinion leaders.
A primary goals of -this, and. all, Centennial -Bicentennial
projects is unity ---not of opinion, but of opportunity.
The participation of all groups should be solicited and
attempts to balance representation should be made. This
.balancing should be accomplishedthrough inclusion rather
thanexclusion. The participation ' of all should be sought
with extra attention given to the involvement of traditionally
under -represented groups.
The following are among the groups who should be invited
to participate in the community workshop:
Public officials (state and local)
Business and professional people
Social and political organizations
(leaders of both political parties)
Members of the college or university community
Labor
Racial and ethnic minorities
Women
School Board members, administrators, teachers,
high school students
Service clubs
Clergy
Interested individuals not affiliated with any
organization
